Minnesota Agriculture in Classroom (MAITC) boosts agricultural literacy by offering educational resources for teachers and their students in grades K-12. Children’s literature book bundles serve as an excellent resource for students to learn and teachers to build lessons. MAITC recently established two new sets of “book bundles” targeted for grades K-2 and 3-5, respectively. Both bundles include 10 books and a new Educator Guide. These new book bundles are full of innovative ways for teachers to utilize children’s books and integrate agricultural lessons into the classroom. Each book connects to core K-5 Minnesota Academic Standards in either English Language Arts, Science, or Social Studies. Children’s books in each bundle address various agricultural topics ranging from honeybees, pig farming, the Cat in the Hat’s spin on growing seeds, apple orchards, modern farm machinery, agricultural history, and more. Minnesota Agricultural Literacy Book Bundle Grades K-2 photo“We are pleased to offer these new Agricultural Children’s Literature Book Bundles at an affordable price point,” said MAITC Program Director Al Withers. “We encourage local agriculture or education groups to sponsor one or more book bundles for their local elementary school or public library.” An integral asset to the new MAITC book bundles is an accompanying Educator Guide. Each K-2 and 3-5 grade level guide is designed to stimulate discussion and extend student learning about agriculture beyond the book. The books and extended learning opportunities included in the companion Educator Guide offer easy connections to many curricular areas. The cost of each MAITC book bundle is $100 plus tax and $10 for shipping.
