Report: Milk production in Minnesota up in March

Milk production in Minnesota during March 2016 totaled 833 million pounds, up 3 percent from the previous March according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report. The average number of milk cows during March, at 460,000 head, was unchanged from both last month and last year. Monthly production per cow averaged 1,810 pounds, up 50 pounds from last March. This is the highest monthly milk per cow on record for Minnesota and the first time monthly milk per cow has exceeded 1,800 pounds.
