A man accidentally shot himself Thursday while transferring guns to a newly purchased gun safe. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office received the call of the accidental shooting at 5:50pm Thursday. The man’s girlfriend stated he was not bleeding profusely or under any duress as a result of the shot. Deputies responded to a residence on the 26000 block of County Road 2 in Garrison. The 60-year-old Garrison man told deputies he had purchased a new gun safe earlier in the day and was in the process of moving his unsecured weapons to the safe when the accidental discharge occurred. The man said he was carrying a .22-caliber handgun and did not ensure it was safe to handle. The gun discharged a bullet into his upper left thigh. He was taken by ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd for treatment of his injury and later released.
