On October 8th, 1950 AM960 KLTF went on the air at 10am. KLTF was started by three men from Minneapolis—Thor Simpson, George Heleniak and Bill Johnson. The current location of Little Falls Radio was the original site of KLTF’s original facility—north of Little Falls on what was known then as Highway 371 but is now called Haven Road. Wanting to go into television, the original owners of the station put it up for sale in 1952. Buying it was Jack Lemme, a native of Duluth who continues to make the Little Falls area his home. Past staff members of the station included Al Beck, Wayne King, Jack Nugent, Gordy Lommen and Jack Peck. The offices for KLTF were first located over the Koroll Shoe Store next to the First National Bank. In 1960, everything was moved to the second floor of the Falls Court building on 1st Street North which is now across from the current Little Falls Police Station. Lemme sold the station now KLTF and KFML to Jack Hansen and Steve Van Slooten in 1996. Hansen and Van Slooten had purchased WYRQ in Little Falls some years earlier. In 2004, Hansen and Van Slooten then turned the station over to Former Senator Rod and his wife Chris Grams. Chris is still the current owner of Little Falls Radio Corporation located at 16405 Haven Road in Little Falls. KLTF will celebrate 65 years today on a speical Party Line at 10am, that program has been on for over 50 years on AM960 KLTF.
