A Backus man was killed after being hit by a tire that came off a dump truck. 74-year-old Charles Lin was retrieving his mail when he was struck at the end of his driveway by a tire and rim that came off a wheel of the tandem-axle dump truck on 8th Street Southwest near Backus. The driver of the truck, 72-year-old Bruce Eveland of Backus did not know the tire came off the truck. The incident is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office and Minnesota State Patrol.
