CenturyLink has accepted funding from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to invest more than $54 million per year over the next six years for rural broadband development in unserved areas in Greater Minnesota. The funding is projected to bring access to more than 114,000 homes and businesses, and is provided through the FCC’s Connect America Funding, which is funded by the Universal Service Fund, an existing surcharge for telecommunications companies. Assistant Majority Leader Rep. Ron Kresha, R-Little Falls, said. “Over the next several years through public and private investment and state policy, we can improve rural broadband access for Minnesota schools, families, and businesses. 21st century internet speeds are critical to rural economic development.”
