A ballroom and several other elements were removed or changed in an effort to keep the River’s Edge Convention Center parking ramp within an $11.56 million budget. The St. Cloud City Council heard details at a study session Monday. Previous bids for the project came in higher than anticipated and were rejected earlier this summer. The design team and city staff reassessed the project so it would meet budget requirements. The biggest change is the elimination of a ballroom addition to the convention center. Staff estimates the project will be about $345,000 under the target of $11.56 million, while carrying a $500,000 contingency. The goal is to have the ramp completed by the middle of August or early September next year. Bids could come back to the City Council in October. The city has $11.56 million in state bonding dollars for the project. The plan calls for about 420 parking stalls, including ramp and surface parking dedicated to the convention center, which meets the city’s original goal of 400 but is lower than the 450 stalls in the rejected plan.
