Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl would like to remind everyone to be consistently observant of downed power lines as the power companies are hard at work restoring power. As the main lines are restored, power is getting out to the feeder lines where some lines may still be on the ground. The power companies would also like to remind people to check their house for potential fire hazards. Check the lines that run from the poles to the homes and garages. If damaged, they will need to be repaired first in an effort to restore the power. Also, check inside the home including stoves and range tops to assure they are off and free from items that could cause a fire when the power comes back on. Other safety concerns include running generators and other gas powered equipment indoors or inside attached garages. Make sure all equipment are running in a well ventilated area. Sheriff Dahl also wants the community to keep an eye out for people who are scamming and looting. Report immediately to law enforcement with detailed description of the suspect and vehicles. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office asks for your patience and understanding in this time of emergency response.
