Certification Program Addresses Water Quality Concerns in MN

Tuesday, November 1st 2016

The Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture says Minnesota farmers are addressing water quality concerns through the Department’s certification program. Matt Wohlman tells Brownfield part of the process involves an overall assessment of the operation. He says a risk score is calculated for each farm, and best management practices are recommended specific to the operation. More than 275 farmers have become certified in the program statewide. Wohlman says the fall is a good time to identify threats to water quality, and interested farmers are encouraged to contact the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to learn more about the certification program.
