MN Cattlemen, cattlewomen host annual convention

Thursday, December 1st 2016

Minnesota cattle producers are making strides in improving the environment. State Cattlemen’s Association executive director Ashley Kohls says one of the big successes for the industry in 2016 involves conservation on the farm. “Especially on the cow/calf side of things, focusing on conservation grazing and working collaboratively with the DNR to help them manage some of their state lands.” She tells Brownfield there are also many cattle producers who talk about farming acres that should be farmed and grazing acres that should be grazed. “Land that’s not necessarily ideal for row-cropping is a perfect situation for cattle.  So I think that the relationships that we’ve built with some of our state agencies over the past year have been a huge success for our association and for our members.  And we’re really excited to continue to build on that into 2017.” Kohls says those conservation efforts are happening at both the state and national level. The Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association annual convention beginning later this week will highlight some of the industry successes from the past year.
