Former Aitkin Police Chief Scott Leslie Smith will serve two years of supervised probation after pleading guilty Monday for soliciting prostitution in a public place. Smith was one of 8 men charged with gross misdemeanor in May after a police sting operation at a Baxter hotel. The conditions of Smith’s probation require him to provide full access to all electronic devices, comply with counseling, submit to random searches and have no access to any website used to promote prostitution or escort services. He was granted community service in lieu of fines that totaled nearly $1,700. A rule 5 hearing was also held Monday for four others arrested in the sting on May 20th in Crow Wing County. This was only a preliminary hearing to inform the defendants of the charges against them and their rights. Hearing dates were set for the four men later this month, and hearing dates were established for others involved later this year for their cases.
