Governor Mark Dayton Wednesday approved a request for state assistance from Cass, Crow Wing and Todd Counties following severe thunderstorms and high winds July 12-13.  Preliminary damage assessments conducted by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Homeland Security Emergency Management showed approximately $1.3 million in damages from the storm. Under Minnesota law, the state provides 75 percent of the total eligible damage costs for each county. Each county is responsible for covering the remaining 25 percent of costs which, in this case, were primarily emergency protective measures and debris removal.
