The Greater St. Cloud Family YMCA has entered the public stage of the drive to raise $24.9 million to build the new community and aquatics center in conjunction with the city of St. Cloud. The campaign’s goal is to raise $1.4 million from the community by the end of October to help the organization break ground this fall on the project. Delays until spring could increase the costs of the project. As of Monday, the YMCA has raised $100,000. The city has kicked in $10 million in current local-option sales tax money and $4 million from future local-option sales tax revenue. Area businesses and the private sector have generously pitched in more than $11 million. The location for the new facility at Whitney Park makes it easily accessible for the surrounding communities. Community members can donate gifts in three-year pledges in addition to one-time donations. People can donate by calling Gage at (320) 253-2664.
