Jury selection began Monday in Crow Wing County District Court against one of the defendants in the January 4th double shooting of two people – one fatally – at a north Brainerd residence. A jury will be selected for Nathan Becker, who plead not guilty in June for his role in the January 4th shootings at an apartment on the 800 block of Juniper Street in Brainerd. He was indicted by a grand jury February 13th on first-degree aiding and abetting 23-year old Tyler Cronquist who was indicted on first-degree murder with premeditation and attempted first-degree murder with premeditation. Cronquist’s case has not yet been scheduled for trial. An omnibus hearing is scheduled at 9:00am on October 20th. Becker and Cronquist are accused of shooting two victims – 31-year old Joseph Kroll and 31-year old Chelsey Crawford, both of Brainerd – in the head at an apartment at the Juniper Street address. The victims were airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where Kroll died as a result of the gunshot wound. Crawford underwent surgery for her injuries but survived. Typically in a murder trial, a jury panel will consist of 12 members and between two to four alternate jurors. Jury selection could take the full week and it is anticipated for the trial to begin September 21st.
