Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen reports that just before 10:00pm Friday night the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two vehicle accident west of Royalton in Bellevue Township. Deputies responded to the scene and later learned that a semi tractor was facing westbound and the driver was backing the trailer into a driveway approach south of Nature Road. The trailer of the semi was across the roadway and a smaller car was eastbound on Nature Road and struck the trailer which was in the eastbound driving lane. The Semi driver was identified as 37-year old Shawn Willhite of Royalton and the driver of the car was identified as 77-year old Virgil Girtz of Royalton. Willhite was not injured and Girtz was pronounced dead at the scene. Sheriff Larsen said the accident is still under investigation.
