On Friday morning at 6:37am, the Little Falls Fire Department was dispatched to 735 7th Street NE on a report of a detached garage fire. The Little Falls Fire Department arrived and found smoke and fire visible from the garage. Firefighters made entry into the garage and extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but appears to be accidental, likely caused by an unattended recreational fire. Little Falls Fire Department was assisted by Little Falls Police, Morrison County Sheriff’s Department, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance. Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 0840 hours. As a safety reminder, it is legal to have a recreational fire in Little Falls if the fire is contained to a fire pit of some sort and no larger than 3 feet in diameter and 3 feet high. Only dry firewood should be burned. In addition, fires need to be attended until they are completely out. Even if you think the fire is out, ashes can hold heat for many hours or even days. The safest thing is to put water on the fire when you are finished with it. You should also make sure there are no combustible items within 25 feet of the fire pit.
