Little Falls Community High School Principal Tim Bjorge along with Becky Abbott spoke on KLTF Wednesday morning on 15 years of the Day of Caring in Little Falls, this year is the 14th event in those 15 years as there was none in 2020. The Day of Caring is May 7th from 8am-12pm in Little Falls along with Randall and the villages of Flensburg and Sobieski. Registration is going on now for those who want the kids and volunteers to clean their yards that morning. Rules, regulations and what can be done is on the registration form at area businesses, the library, Little Falls Radio and the high school office. Registration must be completed and turned in by April 11th and volunteers, groups and others who want to help are asked to be in by April 18th to Becky at the high school. Another reminder if you signed up last year you are expected to receive a phone call tonight after 6pm from the school to see if you want to do it again. Again if you don't answer the phone or are not home, they can sign you up and you would have to fill out a registration again and all who have signed up last year or at all in the past must do the same. All questions can be directed to the high school and call Julie Mushel at 320-632-2003 or Becky Abbott at 320-616-2215.
Three central Minnesota fire departments have been awarded a life-saving piece of equipment. The Central Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Region has donated LUCAS devices to the Randall Fire Department in Morrison County, the Montrose Fire Department in Wright County, and the Kerrick Fire Department in Pine County. The LUCAS device delivers consistent chest compressions to cardiac arrest patients. It will allow first responders to provide efficient CPR and reduce their fatigue. The donations are part of CMEMS' Project LUCAS where fire departments and first responders could apply for one of the three devices. The Central Minnesota EMS region serves first responders in 11 counties across central Minnesota.
There are big changes in store for some local sports teams as the Minnesota State High School League begins reclassifying squads for the next two years. Enrollment cutoffs for each class by sport have been released, and they will add some fuel to an already hot hockey rivalry. Sartell High School’s projected enrollment is 1,173 students, which would facilitate a move down to Class A. They will almost certainly share a section with St. Cloud Cathedral, which has made back-to-back state title game appearances. Sauk Rapids-Rice will also be in Class A on the ice with 1,163 students. Cathedral’s enrollment will lead to a drop to Class AA in football. At 307 students, it misses the cutoff to stay up a level by six kids. In recent years, Cathedral’s schedule had already included games against Holdingford and Eden Valley-Watkins. One of the more notable changes will happen on the gridiron. St. Cloud Tech football is moving down to Class AAAA after it appealed to the MSHSL for an exception. The Tigers have had a rough go of it in recent seasons, winning a total of four games since 2021. They were 2-7 a year ago. The move mirrors a drop down in competition level for St. Cloud Apollo. They had played in AAA on a two-year trial basis, which has been extended. Playing at a lower competition level is not necessarily a cure-all. The Eagles were 1-8 in both 2023 and 2024, losing to squads like Cathedral and Foley. The Tigers will probably take on state powerhouses such as ROCORI and Becker in the years to come.

Police are looking for a man after an early Wednesday morning burglary attempt. The St. Cloud Police Department says officers responded to a call about 1:54am from a resident in the apartment building in the 300 block of 14th Ave SE. The resident told officers they woke up to find an unknown man in the apartment who fled once they screamed. The burglar is described as a black man about 6 feet tall, with a muscular build, small shoulder-length black dreadlocks, and wearing a black coat. Police say there were no signs of forced entry and no known weapons that were used. Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Cloud Police Department or Tri-County Crime Stoppers.
