The Morrison County Sheriff's Office posted this message from the Falls Ballroom Banquet and Catering Services on Tuesday morning: "We could use your help and prayers this morning, Last (Sunday) night we were robbed, and while our peace of mind is rattled quite a bit, our main goal is to find the black Dees Decorating Trailer. Between her trailer and our personal property we lost over 10K worth of valuables. We believe in the power of prayer, and we believe in forgiveness. So please spread the word, keep your eyes out for a black U-Haul trailer and a white truck (it had a big logo on it, but of course they could paint over that) and when it is safely returned, we will find it in our hearts to forgive and move forward with grateful hearts". The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday at approximately 7:25pm, their office received a report of an ATV accident in the ditch along Grouse Road, approximately four miles north of Little Falls in Green Prairie Township. According to the Sheriff's Office, a 16-year-old juvenile female from Little Falls was driving an ATV in the ditch with a 13-year-old juvenile female passenger from Little Falls. The ATV hit a driveway approach at a high speed which threw both juveniles off the ATV. The 13-year-old juvenile female passenger was transported to St. Gabriel’s Hospital by Mayo Clinic Ambulance with unknown injuries. Both occupants were wearing helmets.
A Stearns County judge has sentenced a man for stabbing a St. Cloud police officer following a domestic dispute last year. The judge has sentenced 47-year-old Kyeon Hill to 11 years in prison after a jury convicted him of felony 1st-degree assault - use of deadly force against a police officer in July. Hill was accused of stabbing police officer Virgilia Schreiner in the arm as she was placing him under arrest for a domestic disturbance in May 2025. Officer Schreiner then fired her gun at Hill, hitting him in the shoulder. Another officer tased Hill and took him into custody after he fled the scene on foot. The incident unfolded when officers responded to the 600 block of 8th Avenue North. A woman had called 911 to report that Hill had threatened her. Officers found Hill sitting in a vehicle at that location. They told Hill to drop the knife he was holding and exit the vehicle. When he exited the car, police say he stabbed Officer Schreiner in the arm, causing a puncture wound. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says a pocket knife was recovered at the scene.
A Meeker County man faces criminal charges after a stabbing incident in Grove City on Sunday. The Meeker County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a home in the 800 block of Maple Lane just before 9:30am. Deputies arrived to find family members rendering medical aid to a 44-year-old woman who had been stabbed in the chest. The sheriff's office says family members also detained the suspect, 23-year-old Mitchell Lokken of Grove City, until officers arrested him at the scene. The victim was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital, then airlifted to HCMC for further treatment. Authorities say Lokken and the victim know each other and the assault was the result of a disagreement between the two. Lokken is being held in the Meeker County Jail until his initial court appearance.
St. Cloud State University will cover full tuition and fees for up to four years for 75 Minnesota high school students through a new scholarship program. The Huskies Scholars Program is open to in-state students who graduate high school in 2027 with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and plan to start at St. Cloud State as first-year students in the fall of 2027. University leaders say the program is aimed at making college more affordable and helping students finish school without debt. They also hope larger scholarships will keep St. Cloud State a top choice for Minnesota students. Students selected for the program will be admitted directly to the university’s Honors College and will get priority registration for classes. To be eligible, students must complete their admission application to St. Cloud State by November 1st. They also need to submit an official high school transcript, an admission essay and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by December 1st.
Central Minnesota high school students hoping to one of the nation’s elite military academies can take the first step this fall. 6th District Congressman Tom Emmer is now accepting applications from students who want his nomination to one of four service academies. They include the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. A congressional nomination is required for admission to all four. Emmer’s office is holding an information night for students and parents on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6pm at the St. Cloud Public Library in Mississippi Room 106. Staff will walk families through how the application and nomination process works. Students who are accepted get a four-year, tuition-free college education. In return, graduates commit to serving at least five years in the military. To qualify, applicants must live in Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District, be U.S. citizens and be no older than 22. They also cannot be married, have ever been married, or have dependents. Applications must be mailed to Emmer’s Otsego district office and postmarked by October 30th. The packet includes a transcript, SAT or ACT scores, three letters of recommendation, a photo and a typed essay of no more than two pages explaining why the student wants to attend an academy. Interviews with finalists are set for November 14th. Emmer’s office recommends students start the process in the spring of their junior year. Students applying to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, do not need a congressional nomination. More information is available from Emmer’s Otsego office at (763) 241-6848.
Minnesota health officials are asking customers of a Twin Cities wildlife service to come forward amid concerns about potential rabies exposure. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is seeking people who used ASAP Wildlife Services Minnesota to submit a bat or other wild mammal for rabies testing since September 1st. MDH said at least one customer was told an animal tested negative by a lab that does not perform animal rabies testing. Anyone who used the business should call MDH at 651-201-5368. Health officials will determine whether testing was performed and whether rabies prevention shots are needed. The request comes as MDH warns about a rabid bat found September 15th on Hennepin Avenue between N. Washington Avenue and N. 3rd Street. The bat tested positive for rabies. Anyone who had physical contact with that bat should contact a health care provider. MDH says bat bites can be difficult to detect and may not leave a visible mark.
