Nearly 30 weather records were broken Monday including in Little Falls. A high temperature of 86 degrees at the Little Fall Airport surpassed the record set in 2011 of 84. St. Cloud hit 88 degrees that broke a record set back in 1933 of 86. The Twin Cities, Brainerd, Bemidji, Rochester and many other towns reached the upper 80s Monday breaking previous high temperature records. Temps will be a bit cooler today then another stretch of days in the mid to upper 80s Thursday and Friday that will get close or break more records this week with possible severe thunderstorms Friday into Saturday. Cooler temps forecast next week.
Monday on KLTF Community Program County Administrator Matt LeBlanc stated that the budget for the county for next year is up quite a bit from previous years due to mainly inflation and a Truth in Taxation hearing and public meeting is being planned later this year before it finalized for 2026 it cannot be risen from the spot it is at but can still be lowered. LeBlanc said construction will continue through mid-late October if the weathers allows it and they are hiring positions if interested contact LeBlanc at 320-632-0296.
Monday on KLTF Party Line Joel and Kenten of Fallsnet spoke on the Windows 10 End of Standard Support on October 14th. Kenten stated that your computer will still continue to function without receiving security updates, technical support, new features and will likely become vulnerable to malware and viruses. You can get Windows 10 ESU for a 1 year of extended support but there is a cost by going to your microsoft rewards points program or you can upgrade to Windows 11 by contacting your Microsoft or internet provider or call Fallsnet tech support 616-2166. Joel and Kenten recommend that if you have computers before 2018/2019 when Windows 7 went to 10 and now beyond you may not be able to upgrade and likely would be looking at a new device with the latest software recommendations.
The Morrison County Historical Society announces that its newest temporary exhibit officially opens Wednesday, October 1, at the Charles A. Weyerhaeuser Memorial Museum. From September 1952 through May 1968, Father Pierz Memorial High School attended to the educational and spiritual needs of students from the Buckman, Harding, Lastrup, and Pierz parishes. A total of 1047 students graduated from Memorial High School during its sixteen years of operation. In recent months, the historical society was donated photo collections from several of Memorial High School’s graduating classes; the kind that hung in the hallways of many schools, meant to recognize those graduates. There are many familiar names and faces found in the images. Included in the display are copies of articles from the Pierz Journal about the goings on at Memorial High. The photo collections will be on exhibit through the end of March 2026. Museum hours are: Wednesday to Friday, 10 to 4 and Saturdays 10 to 3. The museum is free to visit but donations are encouraged.
National Fire Prevention Week gets off to an early start locally with the Foley Fire and Rescue Annual Open House this Saturday. The event takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the fire hall, located at 81 Norman Avenue South. Warm weather is expected to linger for the rest of the week, with high temps on Saturday likely in the upper 70s. That will provide perfect conditions for kids to man a real-life fire hose as they try to douse simulated flames inside a multi-story home. Visitors can meet with members of the Foley Fire Department and learn more about recruiting efforts. Trained professionals will host a kitchen fire demo at 11:30 and 12:30 with a raffle sandwiched in between at noon. Grand Champion Meats is providing hot dogs for everyone in attendance. A local farm will be handing out pumpkins to use either as porch decorations or for Halloween carving. The Foley Fire Department handles calls for the city and surrounding townships.
MISSING PERSON ALERT: The Maplewood Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing teenager. Olivia Nave, age 15, is 4 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs 110 pounds, has black hair with red highlights and brown eyes. She was last seen on Sept.19 leaving a residential treatment program near the intersection of Larpenteur Avenue E and Century Avenue N in Maplewood. Olivia has connections to the Newport and Champlin areas and may be associated with a black 2014 Buick Enclave with Minnesota license plate ZYV055. Anyone with information about Olivia's whereabouts is asked to contact the Maplewood Police Department at 651-249-2631 or call 911.

Sports: The Minnesota Twins announced Monday afternoon that Rocco Baldelli is out as manager after a lackluster year and turmoil in ownership. This season, the Twins had a 70-92 record, which was the second-worst mark in the American League. Baldelli, 44, who had completed his seventh season as the club's manager, has the third-most managerial victories in Twins history with 526, behind only Tom Kelly (1,140) and Ron Gardenhire (1,068). The Twins hired Baldelli after the 2018 season. Major League Baseball playoffs begin Tuesday, American League Cleveland vs. Detroit, Boston vs. New York winners get top seeds Toronto and Seattle. National League Cincinnati vs. Los Angeles, San Diego vs. Chicago Cubs with winners getting top seeds Milwaukee and Philadelphia to get to World Series.
