District 10 State Senator Nathan Wesenberg won in the GOP Primary Tuesday 9,070 over challenger Deb Holthaus with 3,152 to advance to November to face DFL candidate Tara Killen who got 4,086 votes. In State House District 10A it was Mark Striemer winning the GOP primary 3,619 votes to Brian Lindquist who had 2,710 votes to move to November to take on DFL candidate Melissa Maertens who got 2,572 votes.
Primary Election Results from Tuesday: Governor of Minnesota the top GOP candidate was Lisa Demuth with 179,546 winning ahead of Mike Lindell 134,198 for GOP nod where Senator Amy Klobuchar was the top DFL vote getter easily with over 614,000 votes. U.S. Senate race GOP Michelle Tafoya the top vote getter with over 211,000 votes. DFL side Peggy Flanagan over 411,000 votes to Angie Craig who got just under 275,000 to advance to November. U.S. House District 7 DFL went to Erik Osberg 27,755 to Steve Carlson 14,489 to take on Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach with 69,465 who ran unopposed in primary. In District 8 Congressman Pete Stauber won GOP Primary and DFL candidate Trina Swanson won in primary to advance to November. District 6 Congressman Tom Emmer beat two others in GOP primary to move on to November against DFL candidate Doug Chapin. Minnesota Secretary of State Tad Jude wins GOP goes against Steve Simon, Scott Jensen wins GOP nod for State Auditor to face Zack Filipovich. Attorney General Keith Ellison won DFL primary to face Ronald Schutz of GOP party in November.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported an injury accident at 2:10pm Tuesday on Highway 27 in Agram Township of Morrison County. 20-year-old Rachel Stich of Pierz was on Highway 27, as the vehicle crossed the center line she collided with a GMC driven by 75-year-old Constance Vogtlin of Onamia. Both drivers were taken to the hospital in Little Falls and treated for their reportedly non life threatening injuries.
The Brainerd Police Department responded to a fatal accident on Monday at 5:13pm on Business Highway 371 and Greenwood Street. It was reported that 79-year-old Rodney Knowles of Brainerd was southbound on 371 and turned onto Greenwood Street and was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by 33-year-old Jesse Logelin of Brainerd. Knowles was taken to the hospital with serious significant injuries. Logelin was treated at the Cuyuna Medial Center for minor injuries. A passenger in the Knowles vehicle 70-year-old Paul Joseph Dolan of Brainerd was pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived on the accident scene.
One person was injured Monday around 4:45pm on Highway 371 in Pequot Lakes when the vehicle crashed into the median and rolled. 44-year-old Saurabh Shah of Roseville was taken to North Memorial Medical Center of treatment of his injuries.
An aquatic invasive species has been found in another central Minnesota lake. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is reporting zebra mussels have been discovered in Shamineau Lake in Morrison County. The lake is located near Motley. An angler reported to the DNR finding a zebra mussel in the lake, and invasive species staff conducted a search of the public water access and other locations, finding one other adult zebra mussel. Anyone who thinks they may have found an aquatic invasive species should contact the DNR. Minnesota law requires lake users to clean watercraft, trailers and equipment, drain all water and leave plugs out, and dispose of unwanted bait in the trash. Rafts, docks and lifts should be dried for three weeks before returning to a different water body.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin work on the Highway next week. Starting Monday, August 17th, crews will begin updating sidewalks and approaches along Highway 10 through town. Work will take place Monday through Friday and include periodic lane, sidewalk, and shoulder closures as crews update pedestrian facilities in Royalton. In late August, after the sidewalk work is completed, crews will resurface both directions of Highway 10 from North Maple Street to the south end of town. Drivers should expect lane closures and flaggers helping guide traffic. The work will take place in segments as crews make their way through the corridor. The $1.1-million project is to be completed in early September.
Two vehicles and a garage were damaged in a fire. The St. Cloud Fire Department was called to a home on 22nd Avenue South at about 6pm on Monday. Fire crews found a small detached two-car garage with a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The fire was rapidly spreading from the vehicle to the garage. The two vehicles sustained severe fire damage, along with significant damage to the interior of the garage. The fire is under investigation by the St. Cloud Fire Marshal's Office.
Registration for the Little Falls Community School District will be held this year all on Thursday from 9am-6pm at the Little Falls Community Middle School Commons to get them prepared for the upcoming school year. a Reminder that school will start for 6th and 9th graders on August 31st, the Elementary Schools will have open houses on August 31st, then all students will return to class September 1st in Little Falls.
