NEWS
--On Thursday afternoon both Ron Wooden and Pinky “Olive” Manlick were named 2017 Morrison County Outstanding Senior Citizens. This award recognizes individuals who go above and beyond to make a positive difference in the community. Both will compete at the next level at the Minnesota State Fair. On Thursday, August 31st Horizon Health will have a bus taking everyone who wants to join to the Minnesota State Fair to celebrate our Morrison Outstanding Seniors.

--Today is Day 2 of the Morrison County Fair. KLTF Party Line will be live again at 10:05 from the fairgrounds. Today is Motoring Day meaning a classic car show, which all are who have a classic vehicle are welcome to attend at 3:00pm. There will be a 25th Anniversary commemoration of the current fairgrounds at 3:00pm, pig races at 5:00pm sponsored by Little Falls Radio, Games Galore Ultimate Bounce Experience 12-9:00pm, armbands $10 for the day, the demolition derby at 7:00pm at the grandstand, live music by Sue Kliber at 4:00pm and the Steele River Band at 8:00pm, smear card tournament at 12:30pm, bingo and more and even fireworks after the cash drawing tonight at 10:00pm. Join Little Falls Radio's Corey Fink out at the fair today at 3:00pm and for the pig races at 5:00pm. Saturday is Kids Day, events including Strider bike event, bike rodeo, Home Depot workshop, rural school house events, chocolate baking contest, 500 card tournament, join FM94's Paladin and others in the milking contest Saturday at 12:30pm, there is a tractor pull at 3:00pm and the $1,000 cash drawing at 10:00pm. Sunday there is a polka mass at 10:00am, ultimate bounce house from 10am-9pm Saturday and 12-5:00pm Sunday, mud trucks event at 2:00pm at the grandstand, wellness radio, mushroom display, 4H fashion revue and more to finish out the fair on Sunday. --The Kiwanis Club of Little Falls has volunteers putting together the Washington Park playground on Saturday. The city of Little Falls is
doing the prep work today.

--Walleye fishing has returned to Mille Lacs Lake. Officials with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said that catch and release fishing and the use of live bait has returned to the lake and continues through September 4th. Night fishing between 10:00pm and 6:00am remains prohibited through November 30th. Anglers can night fish for northern pike, but may only use artificial lures or sucker minnows, and both must be longer than eight inches.

--Governor Mark Dayton announced he will interview five Brigadier Generals and a Major General in a quest to replace outgoing Minnesota National Guard Adjutant General Richard (Rick) Nash who is stepping down later this fall after seven years of leading the Minnesota National Guard. Governor Dayton has appointed a special committee to help him find the next adjutant general.

--There will be a fundraiser breakfast for the Morrison County Chaplaincy Program and Chaplain Gregg Valentine on Sunday at the Falls Ballroom. Pancakes, sausage and beverages will be served with a free will donation to help the chaplaincy program in Morrison County. The event is being put on from 7:00am-1:00pm by members of law enforcement, EMS, fire departments and others in the county to thank Chaplain Valentine for his work and continued support to the program which started nearly 15 years ago.

--The Pierz City Council meets Monday night 7pm at Pierz City Hall.

--There are many other events this weekend including Upsala Heritage Days tonight through Sunday celebrating 100 years in Upsala which includes a concert tonight, parade and events Saturday with fireworks at dusk, breakfast and disc golf tournament Sunday. Also congratulations to Patty Gunderson who found the Upsala medallion under the awning of Michael's Trucking sign in Upsala this week. Patty wins $100 in Upsala bucks. Other events include St. James Augustfest in Randall Sunday, fundraiser for Alzheimers Saturday at The Canteen by Camp Ripley, other fundraisers and events can be found at fallsradio.com.

--Stearns County deputies along with Elrosa Fire Department responded early Thursday morning before 1:00am to the Wuertz Dairy Farm in Spring Hill Township. Upon arrival, deputies found a cattle barn fully engulfed in flames. Homeowners were awakened by a passerby prior to deputies arrival. Homeowners were able to open one gate to release several of the trapped cows inside. The property is owned and operated by Peter and Lisa Wuertz of Melrose. The barn housed approximately 30 cows. Approximately 25 calves were killed during the fire. No people were injured in the fire. The barn was a complete loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

--Three people were injured after one driver attempted to help another on Minnesota Highway 23 Wednesday. 30-year old Stephanie Skalicky of Pine City, was driving east on Highway 23 at about 8:30pm in Minden Township when Skalicky pulled over to the left, partially blocking the lane, to assist another driver. 24-year old Ashley Schefers of Foley, was driving east on Highway 23. Schefers didn't see Skalicky's vehicle, and rear-ended it. Schefers and her 16-year old passenger Brittnee Budde of Foley, were transported to St. Cloud Hospital with injuries. Skalicky received injuries but was not taken to the hospital. No injuries were considered life threatening.

--A pedestrian was injured early Wednesday morning when she was struck by car. 19-year old Jacob Pick of Sauk Rapids was driving south on Cypress Road in northwest St. Cloud about 1:00am when a woman walked into the road from behind a parked car. The pedestrian, 33-year old Kathryn Sabinske of St. Cloud was seriously injured and taken to St. Cloud Hospital for her injuries. Police say Sabinske showed signs of impairment, which may have contributed to the incident. No charges are being filed.
