NEWS
–FM94’s Ladies Night Out Pierz Style was last night. Congratulations to each of the winners including Kelsey Fuhrman who won our grand prize of $500 in Pierz Ladies Night Out Bucks. In total over $2,000 worth of prizes were given away. 78 ladies participated and we are already looking forward to another Ladies Night Out in Little Falls on Thursday, April 28th and in Pierz again next year.

–Tony Allan Maciej who has served on the Swanville City Council since January 2015, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one gross misdemeanor count of domestic assault for striking his girlfriend on January 13th. Maciej admitted that he had been drinking during the incident, and got into an argument with his girlfriend when he lost his temper and struck her with an open hand. Maciej was sentenced to 365 days in jail, of which 335 days will be stayed for two years, with credit for two days already served. Maciej was also sentenced to two years of supervised probation, ordered to complete a domestic education class and chemical assessment and fined $285.

–A review hearing Wednesday for Nathan Becker has been continued in Crow Wing County Distrcit Court. Becker is one of two defendants indicted in January in the double shooting, one fatally, at a north Brainerd residence. The review was scheduled to determine if Becker was competent to stand trial. A date has not yet been scheduled for when the hearing will be continued in Crow Wing County.

–Overnight Sunday into Monday several vehicles were gone through in Royalton on North Pine, Cherry and Ironwood. All vehicles were unlocked and items were taken. Some items have been recovered that were found along side the roadway heading south out of town, and the owner of those items have been notified. Two different shoe prints and tire tracks have been photographed and logged into the Royalton Police Department’s system. Contact the Royalton Police Department if you have any information on this case.

–A 45-year-old woman was injured Friday on County Road 48 in Baxter in a three-vehicle crash that involved two school buses. Police say a school bus driven by 72-year-old Robert Dambowy of Brainerd rear ended a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Jody Lynn Stout of Brainerd which caused her vehicle to strike a bus driven by 64-year-old Christine Bjornson of Baxter. Stout was ambulanced to the Brainerd hospital for her injuries. She has since been released. A juvenile passenger in Dambowy’s bus was treated for a possible injury in the accident. No other injuries were reported.

–One person was taken to the hospital Tuesday after a small house fire in Foley. Foley firefighters were called around 5:00pm to Fourth Avenue South where the fire was in the living room. The fire started after a resident put an object on a heater to dry. A 70-year-old man was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for smoke inhalation. The house suffered minimal damage from the fire.

–A 39-year-old Brainerd man was found guilty by a Crow Wing County jury on first degree arson stemming from a fire last spring in Brainerd. Steven Whitney was sentenced to five years, seven months in prison. He was acquitted from another charge of knowing someone was in the house in the time he set the fire. Because of his previous felony convictions he was given a longer sentence on the arson charges. The incident occurred in May, 2015 where Whitney was convicted of attempting to start a fire with a gas can, on the side of the garage. The gas can was ignited when firefighters arrived.

–A gas station was robbed Tuesday night in Sauk Rapids. Police said two suspects entered SuperAmerica, at 502 Benton Drive North around 10pm and demanded money and cigarettes. Police said no weapon was shown, and the suspects ran from the store on foot. Police described the suspects as two black males, one 6 feet 1 inch tall and around 180 pounds, the other 5 feet 8 inches tall and around 140 pounds. Anyone with information is to call 320-258-5346.

–Two people died Wednesday night after being hit by a vehicle on Minnesota Highway 23 near Spicer. The two victims left their vehicle after a collision at Highway 23 and North Shore Drive before being struck by a third vehicle. 22-year old Shelby Davis of Willmar was driving north on Highway 23 before 7:30pm when she collided with a Volvo going west on North Shore Drive. Both drivers had gotten out of their vehicles and were talking in the median. Authorities believe the passenger of the Volvo was attempting to exit the vehicle as well. The patrol said 54-year old Keven Henslin of Champlin was driving north on Highway 23 and struck both the driver and passenger, who both died at the scene. The State Patrol said it will release more information including names of victims at a later time.

–A St. Cloud man was injured, and a Clear Lake man arrested, after a collision on U.S. Highway 10 Wednesday afternoon. The Minnesota State Patrol said 54-year old Randy Seeley of Clear Lake was turning left from Sherburne County Road 55 onto Highway 10 around 3:45pm when he pulled out into traffic. He collided with a car driven by 22-year-old Alexander Klejeski of St. Cloud. Klejeski was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with injuries the State Patrol did not consider life-threatening. The State Patrol says it detected alcohol in Seeley’s system, and he was arrested on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation. He was booked at Sherburne County Jail.

–A Stearns County man’s longtime abuse of his wife included pointing a shotgun at her while she was breastfeeding a baby. According to charges filed last week 28-year old Nicholas Lehmeier faces charges of felony malicious punishment of a child and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. The assault charges stemmed from a child abuse investigation earlier this month. He is scheduled to have a hearing in court related to the assault charges Monday, and one related to the child abuse charges April 8.
