NEWS
–A 77-year-old Little Falls woman was injured Wednesday night in a collision near the Morrison County Fairgrounds. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office said Jewell Ramsey was driving east on 153rd Street around 9:45pm when she failed to yield to a vehicle moving north on Hawthorne Road. Both vehicles sustained severe damage. Ramsey was taken to CHI St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls. Authorities did not know the extent of her injuries Thursday morning.

–The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said they have received information that a woman charged in the murder of her father is attempting to enlist in the U.S. Air Force. A warrant this week by Stearns County District Court says that Lisa May Kearney met with an Air Force technical sergeant in an attempt to enlist in the Air Force last year where she filed the paperwork prior to the January 4th death of her father Jeffrey Schilling in his St. Cloud residence. Kearney was arrested days later and the sergant’s business card was found in her purse and paperwork for the Air Force in her suitcase following execution of a search warrant. Kearney remains in custody in Kentucky where she was arrested days after her father’s death. According to the Louisville Jail, Kearney’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 4th where it is likely Kearney will not choose to waive extradition to Minnesota meaning it could be more than a month before she returns to Stearns County to face charges.

–A Brooklyn Park man was injured early Wednesday morning when he ran off the road on Interstate Highway 94 near Clearwater in Wright County.  Authorities said 20-year old Joseph Gitenya was driving west on I-94 around 1:45am when he lost control of his vehicle at Minnesota Highway 24. The patrol says the vehicle went through the median and hit the rail around the bridge support. Gitenya was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with injuries the State Patrol does not consider life-threatening.

–Authorities have located and arrested the level 3 predatory offender they were searching for. 66-year old Douglas Lynn Peterson has had ties to several Minnesota, Arizona and Florida cities but was located in southern Texas. He is currently in Guadalupe County Jail.

–Two people were injured in a three-car collision Wednesday night after an Elk River woman drove the wrong way on U.S. Highway 10. 67-year old Barbara Wehrwein was driving east on westbound Highway 10 around 8:00pm west of Waco Street. She struck an SUV head-on that was driven by 47-year-old Kristi Hultberg of Elk River. A third vehicle then struck the SUV from behind. Hultberg and Wehrwein were each taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. The State Patrol report said alcohol was detected in Wehrwein’s system.

–A Belgrade man has been convicted of possessing child pornography after an investigation that began in Itasca County, where he was convicted of soliciting a 14-year-old girl for sex. 43-year old Bradley Stephen Rierson was convicted after a trial this week of seven counts of possession of child pornography in Stearns County. He is scheduled to be sentenced April 22nd by Stearns County District Court Judge Mary Mahler.

–The Sobieski/Swanville Lions will host their ice fishing tournament and raffle Satruday. Fishing starts at noon on Long Lake in Swanville. Fishing/raffle tickets are $5 and can be purchased by any Lions member or at the event on Saturday. The raffle prizes include $2,500 and $1,000 cash donated by the Swanville/Sobieski Lions and many others from local businesses and organizations. The raffle drawing will be held at 6:00pm at Red’s Irish Pub in Swanville.

–The Minnesota Department of Health is investigating an outbreak of foodborne illness associated with alfalfa sprouts produced by Jack & The Green Sprouts. Retailers and restaurants should not sell or serve alfalfa sprouts produced by Jack & The Green Sprouts, and consumers should not eat them at this time. Seven illnesses have been reported in Minnesota, 4 in the Twin Cities, 3 in greater Minnesota of those 2 have had to be hospitalized. Two other cases were reported in Wisconsin with no hospitalization.

–The operator of a daycare facility in St. Cloud was convicted Thursday of misdemeanor fifth-degree assault stemming from a 2014 incident in which a 7-month-old girl in her care suffered bruises on her back, neck and chin. 57-year old Sandra Lee Erickson served five days in the Stearns County Jail and received credit for time served. The rest of a 90-day sentence was stayed for one year on the condition she remain law abiding, provide a DNA sample and perform community service in lieu of a $300 fine. Erickson’s daycare license was revoked last year by the Minnesota Department of Human Services after an investigation by Stearns County Child Protection.

–Little Falls Police in the past two weeks arrested four people on separate charges pending through the county attorney’s office. They responded to a number of theft reports and noise complaints, a burglary reported on LeMieur Street where change was stolen from a machine at the car wash and the machine was damaged. Police also assisted with a vehicle fire back on February 12th on Pine Avenue.

–Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all flags at state and federal buildings to be flown at half staff today in honor of 24-year-old Marine Corp. Seargant Dillon Semolina of Delano who died serving his country on January 14th in a helicopter crash in Hawaii.

BHK= Cathedral beat Little Falls 10-2 last night to go on to state.
BBB= Pierz beat Rush City 75-48 to advance to Saturday to take on Braham at 6pm at St. John’s live on FM94 KFML. Swanville, Browerville, Holdingford and Sauk Centre also advanced to Saturday.
