NEWS
--At 10:58am Wednesday the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of Cable Road and Basil Road, approximately two miles east of Swanville, in Swanville Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 37 year-old Kelly Marty of Burtrum was traveling east on Cable Road behind two other vehicles. Marty went to pass the vehicle in front of her while the vehicle driven by 28-year-old Mitchell Herzog of Long Prairie, also pulled out to pass. Marty lost control of her vehicle and rolled into the ditch. Marty had minor injuries and was transported to St. Gabriel’s Hospital by private vehicle. No other injuries reported.

--An eighth grade student at Forestview Middle School died Monday according to school officials. An email from the Brainerd School District to Forestview families Monday night, from Principal Jon Anderson said the student’s death was unexpected and asked for sensitivity in the way the information was shared. Anderson referred any other questions on the situation to the Brainerd Police Department. Who in a statement Tuesday said they could not provide further information at this time as the case was active.

--You may have experienced a power outage Thursday. Stearns Electric reported 5,200 customers without power Thursday, Minnesota Power reported some isolated outages around central Minnesota and Crow Wing Power also reported around 700 customers without power for a time on Thursday. All power was to be restored in the state of Minnesota before noon if no more problems arose.

--Authorities identified the man seriously injured Sunday after his snowmobile crashed during the Nisswa 100 Snowmobile Race in Cass County. The rider was identified Wednesday as Cody Margelofsky, a 26-year-old from Mayville, Wisconsin. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash, reported at 1:50pm on Jacobs Road in Lake Shore, part of the race course. Medical aid was immediately initiated by a number of emergency personnel at the event, the sheriff’s office reported. Margelofsky was transported by helicopter to a Twin Cities area hospital with a serious injury. The sheriff’s office said the incident is under investigation.

--There was a bus garage fire in Isanti County Tuesday morning. The Braham school district says the Braham Bus Company bus garage started on fire around 9am. School operations will continue as normal and the district will notify parents of any changes which may impact transportation services this evening. They say all students and staff are safe. The Braham Area School District contracts with the Braham Bus Company for transportation services. The district says three buses were lost in the fire, but there were no injuries reported.

--The Brainerd Fire Department responded to two vehicle crashes over the weekend to provide assistance. The first was at 2:25pm at the intersection of Elder Drive and Forthun Road in Baxter. The second was reported at 8:51am Sunday on the 8800 block of Wise Road. In both cases firefighters helped in clearing the accident scene. No word of injuries. Firefighters also responded to a report of a fire at 8:10pm Friday at Shipman Auto Parts, 1711 SE 13th St. Upon investigation, it was determined to be a controlled brush fire.

--The next Pierz City Council meeting is Monday at 7pm at Pierz City Hall in the Senior Dining Center area of the building. After the special meeting Tuesday and resignation of newly elected Mayor Toby Egan more on the next steps are expected to be discussed on Monday.

--Congratulations to Mya Yourczek and Connor Carlson of Royalton named their Triple A nominees for 2023.

--The Morrison County Sheriff's Office were informed they will receive equipment for aid on those who go into cardiac arrest. The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust had awarded an $18.8 million grant to the University of Minnesota Medical School. The grant aims to provide law enforcement officers and first responders across Minnesota with more than 8,300 automated external defibrillators (AED's) to improve cardiac arrest survival rates. The grant includes awarding 28 AED's to the Morrison County Sheriff's Office. The new devices and training of the devices are expected to arrive and training to start by the end of January.

--Sunday marks the 50th Anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision at that time legalizing abortion in the United States. Recently the U.S. Supreme Court reversed that decision allowing states to decide on abortion rights individually. The March for Life will still take place on Sunday with Mass at the St. Paul Cathedral at noon then the march to the State Capitol at 2pm with program 2:30pm. There are buses going to the event from St. Cloud, Foley, Clearwater and Annandale and you need to check with the local churches or St. Cloud Diocese. Unfortunately there is NO buses going from Little Falls or Pierz.

--The Little Falls School Board meets Monday at 5pm at the media center inside the Middle School. There will be presentations and the discussion of the final audit report from 2022. They will also review recent policies and hear reports from board members.

--The Upstage Players present Agatha Christie's The Hollow a murder mystery tonight at 7pm, Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 2pm at the Upsala High School. Tickets available at the door. Another event on Saturday is local comedian Jason Schommer will perform his tribute to Louie Anderson show, Saturday marks the 1 year anniversary of Anderson's death. The show Saturday is at the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud and reserved seating only. You can call the theater today if any tickets remain but there will not be any sold at the door.

NATIONAL NEWS
--Actor Alec Baldwin is to be charged with manslaughter charges following a shooting on a movie set that killed Halyna Hutchins. The shooting happened while setting up a scene on a ranch in New Mexico in 2021. The weapons specialist on set is also being charged.
--Singer David Crosby of Crosby Stills and Nash has died at age 81.
