--A court document filed in the federal child pornography case against Danny Heinrich makes the strongest statement to date that law enforcement believe Heinrich is linked to the abduction of Jacob Wetterling. The prosecution's filing asks a judge to deny Heinrich's motion to suppress evidence and statements and his request to change the venue of his child pornography trial. It details the similarities between the Wetterling abduction in October 1989, the abduction and sexual assault of Cold Spring newspaper carrier Jared Scheierl in January of 1989 and a string of sexual assaults on young boys in the Paynesville area in the mid- to late-1980s. The prosecution's filing reads: "The presence of the defendant’s DNA on the sleeve of the Cold Spring victim [Scheierl], the similarity of manner in which the attacks were conducted, their geographic proximity, the sexual motivation of the offenses, the similarity of ages and gender of the victims, the similar physical description of the suspect, the tire tracks and footprints at the scene of the Wetterling abduction — all link the offenses to each other and to the defendant". Heinrich has not been charged with any crimes relating to the abductions and sexual assaults. When Heinrich was arrested on child pornography charges, investigators referred to him as a "person of interest" in the Wetterling abduction. He has maintained his innocence in the Wetterling and Scheierl cases. According to records, FBI agents interviewed Heinrich on December 16th, 1989 about Wetterling, and he told them he couldn’t recall where he was on January 13th, 1989 when Scheierl was kidnapped and assaulted, or on October 22nd, 1989 when Jacob disappeared.
