NEWS
–The Morrison County Dairy Princess Contest and Coronation will be on Saturday, March 19th at the Falls Ballroom in Little Falls. The social that night begins at 7:00pm with the banquet/coronation at 8:00pm. There are five candidates and three will be selected as Morrison County Dairy Princesses. They will act as good will ambassadors for the local dairy farmers for the next year. The candidates include Taylre Stumpf of Hillman, daughter of Amanda Marshik and Kyle Stumpf; Rebecca Tretter of Hillman, daughter of Adam and Darlene Tretter; Rebecca Smude of Pierz, daughter of Rich and Kathy Smude; Amy Zehowski of Swanville, daughter of Gary and Kim Zehowski; and Nicole Meyer of Randall, with her parents being Kurt and Jenny Monson and Brian Meyer.

–The Little Falls Community Schools have a two question bond referendum scheduled on Tuesday, May 10th. A referendum public meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 8th in the Little Falls Community Middle School Commons. Superintendent Stephen Jones will give a presentation and be available after to answer any questions. Those residing in the Little Falls School District are encouraged to attend to learn more on the upcoming referendum.

–The Charles A. Lindbergh Historic Site will host a History Day at Night event next Thursday. Local 8th Graders from Mary of Lourdes Middle School have produced local documentaries on the national topics of “Exploration, Encounter, Exchange”. The free event begin at the Lindbergh Site at 6:30pm.

–Multiple agencies responded to a house fire Wednesday night west of Pillager. Information on what caused the fire shortly before 10:00pm at 12766 51st Ave SW was not immediately available. Two people went to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center to be treated for smoke inhalation. According to police scanner traffic all occupants made it out of the house.

–Hy-Vee, Inc., based in West Des Moines, Iowa, is voluntarily recalling Maytag Raw Milk Blue Cheese across its eight-state region due to possible contamination with Listeria. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this product. The recalled cheese was sold in whole wheels and cuts, and re-packaged in foil or clear plastic wrap with scale labels in various weights across the Midwest including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. Blue cheese crumbles were also sold in plastic containers. All product was labeled as “Maytag Blue Raw Milk,” “Maytag Blue” or “Maytag Iowa Blue Cheese” between November and March.

–Kinship of Morrison County is getting ready for their 17th Annual Soup and Chili Cookoff fundraiser on March 29th from 5-7pm at the Falls Ballroom. Soup, Chili, fellowship, silent auction and more will be part of the event that night. For info call Aaron Olson at 632-8806. The event is $8 for adults, $5 ages 5-16 and free for those under 4 and over 80 with all proceeds going to mentoring at Kinship.

–The Little Falls City Council will hold their next regular meeting on Monday at 7:30 at the city hall council chambers. The work session for the city council will begin at 6:30 Monday night.

–Check out events this weekend like fish frys tonight, winter wonderland skating shows Saturday at 2 and 7 and Sunday at 2 at the Exchange Arena, breakfasts at senior center and other fundraisers also can be found at fallsradio.com.

–Two season-ticket holders are suing the Minnesota Timberwolves, alleging the team’s paperless ticket policy hurts ticket buyers. The lawsuit is over the use of Flash Seats. It was filed Thursday by a corporation and an individual season-ticket holder and seeks class-action statute. The lawsuit says the team’s paperless ticket policy unlawfully alters the way Timberwolves ticket holders may transfer tickets. Timberwolves President Chris Wright says in a statement that the team doesn’t comment on pending litigation, but it’s confident Flash Seats provides the best possible experience for their fans.

–State regulators have approved the final environmental review for Minnesota’s first copper-nickel mine. Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Landwehr certified Thursday that the environmental impact statement for the proposed mine in northeastern Minnesota meets all the legal requirements. The decision marks a major milestone for PolyMet Mining Corp. It allows the company to start applying for permits for the proposed open pit mine near Babbitt and processing facility six miles from Hoyt Lakes.

–A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect today from 9am to 3pm for northeastern Minnesota including Itasca, Carlton and St. Louis Counties. Lake effect with northeast winds would bring 3-7 inches today and another 2-5 tonight along the northeast corridor of Minnesota and Lake Superior. While northeastern counties will see snow, central Minnesota may see a rain/snow mix today with temps near 40 and temps in the 50s by Sunday and Monday and even the possibility of thunderstorms next week.
