NEWS
--Beginning tomorrow the Highway 27 Mississippi River bridge will reopen as will Highway 27 from Lindbergh Drive to Front Street on Saturday. After that portion opens, Highway 27 from Front Street to 4th Street East through the downtown area in Little Falls will close from May 11th until August. A detour will be posted from Front Street to 1st Avenue Southeast to 4th Street Southeast.

--A Crow Wing County inmate, 18-year old Kobe Eugene Marcell was found unresponsive inside his cell at the Crow Wing County Jail at 10:53pm on Saturday. Deputies and jail staff provided medical assistance at the jail until Marcell was transported by ambulance to North Memorial Medical Center in Robinsdale where he was later pronounced dead. Kobe Marcell was originally booked into the Crow Wing County Jail on May 1st for a probation violation warrant after being arrested in Wadena County. Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard states this case is actively being investigated and his office is awaiting the final autopsy report from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. At this time, the sheriff’s office is not able to release any more specific information related to this investigation.

--Crow Wing County Sheriff Scott Goddard reported an increase in recent telephone scams where the caller indicates they are from law enforcement. The callers will indicate the person has warrants, unpaid fines or failed to report for jury duty. Sheriff Goddard wants to remind the community that any calls like these are not legitimate and should be reported to your local law enforcement. Sheriff Goddard states, “We are seeing an increase in calls from citizens reporting they were instructed to buy gift cards and to send these to the caller in exchange for not being arrested. These subjects are counting on persuading you through fear and intimidation and no one should ever pay a debt to any government entity, particularly law enforcement, via gift cards.” The Sheriff added “when in doubt, hang up and call the agency directly by looking up their telephone number yourself.”

--A Moorhead man was hurt in a crash near Albany Wednesday. The Minnesota State Patrol says it happened at about 4:20pm on westbound Interstate 94. A semi was in the right lane when a car tried to pass it in the left lane and the two collided. The car went into the ditch and hit the cable barriers. The car driver, 21-year-old Abdikani Hassan of Moorhead, was taken to Melrose Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

--Good Luck to the hundreds of thousands of anglers heading out for opening fishing this weekend and a reminder to please put safety first on the lakes and rivers as many will be very cold due to recent non spring-like weather. Lifejackets, watching for invasive species, following the rules and regulations for a safe and successful opening fishing weekend. Sunday is Mother's Day so make you don't forget about Mom on Sunday.

--The Pine County Sheriff's Office determined through their investigation into the incident that claimed the life of Conservation Officer Eugene Wynn, that Wynn accelerated the boat away from the shore and then suddenly made an abrupt left turn on Cross Lake in Pine County. The boat corrected, which launched Wynn and the accompanying deputy into the water. After a lengthy search into the night, Wynn's body was found and pulled from the water deceased. The DNR and law enforcement stated that the two men were investigating an out of place object from the shoreline but were unclear what the object actually was. Officer Wynn leaves behind a wife and two children.

--On May 6th, Minnesota received the Top Large State Award at the Army National Guard Medical Team Conference at Camp Dawson, West Virginia. This is the Minnesota Army National Guard's second year in a row to be nationally recognized.

--The Garrison Fire Department was called Tuesday just after 5pm to a house fire on the 26000 Marshall Road in Garrison. Garrison Fire Assistant Chief Clay Crowther said upon arrival smoke was coming out through the roof and firefighters conducted an interior attack and put it out quickly. Firefighters were able to save the house, as the fire and smoke damage was contained in one room used for storage on the upper floor of the two-story home.

--The Pierz City Council meets Monday at 7pm at Pierz City Hall, also the city of Pierz is accepting spots in the Pierz Community Gardens for 2019. Reserve your 25 by 25 space now for a plot price of $35. The city provides the water, you do the work and take home what grows. For information call Pierz City Hall at 468-6471.

--A reminder from St. Mary's Parish in Little Falls, due to the construction in Little Falls, Mass time has changed to 8am beginning this Sunday, also mass will be in the elementary school gym as the floor of St. Mary's Church will be replaced with new flooring.
