NEWS

--Little Falls this weekend is hosting the 90th Anniversary of the historic flight of Charles A. Lindbergh from New York to Paris on May 20th 1927. Tomorrow is Charles Lindbergh Day in Little Falls. There will be a Rock 'n Run at the Belle Prairie Athletic Complex; scavenger hunt at 1:00pm at Lindbergh site and Lindbergh State Park; tours of the Lindbergh site and the Weyerhauser Museum with items related to the 1927 flight. Sunday there is more events (weather permitting) including a car show, live music and events at LeBourget Park. Also a contingency from Little Falls has traveled to France and give a special message commemerating the famous flight of Little Falls native Charles Lindbergh 90 years ago. --The 17-year old missing Annandale girl was found alive near the Mississippi River. St. Cloud Police Sgt. Burke says Aaliyah Kazimer was found safe Wednesday around 5:15pm in Riverside Park near Munsinger Gardens. Kazimer asked a person to use their phone. The person allowed her to use their phone and she called her aunt. After being interviewed by the police she was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for precautionary reasons. The investigation turned up nothing criminal in nature regarding the circumstances of this missing person case. Authorities were looking for Kazimer who prior to being located on Wednesday had not been seen since Saturday.

--The voting day on the $18.45 million dollar bond authority referendum is Monday for residents of the Pierz School District 484. The special election will be conducted at the Harding Community Center along with the Pierz, Lastrup and Buckman City Halls from Noon-8:00pm this Monday, May 22nd. Voters must use the registered polling place for their address. For information call 468-6458.

--The Pierz City Council will meet Tuesday at 7:00pm at the Pierz City Hall. The reason being that the city hall is being used for the Pierz School Referendum Vote on Monday from 12-8:00pm.

--A 40-year-old Longville woman was injured Tuesday around 4:00am on Crow Wing County Road 10 and Tame Fish Lake Road near Deerwood. Authorities did not release her name only that she missed a stop sign and went across the roadway into the ditch. She had minor injuries. The woman was also arrested on suspicion of DWI and driving after revocation.

--The Minnesota State Patrol is looking for witnesses to a deadly crash on Saturday. 19-month-old Colton Walz of Cold Spring was initially taken to North Memorial, where he later died. The crash happened around 2:30pm on Highway 23 at County Road 71, on the east side of Richmond. A van driven by 23-year-old Joseph Walz collided with a semi. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is encouraged to call the State Patrol at (320) 223-6672.

--Twenty soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard's Company B, 2- 211th General Support Aviation Battalion will be recognized Saturday in St. Cloud following a nine month deployment to Afghanistan. While deployed, the soldiers executed a variety of missions including cargo movement, passenger movement, helicopter assault missions in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. Over the course of the deployment, the company flew over 3,000 aircraft hours and executed over 300 combat missions across Afghanistan. They moved over 1,000,000 pounds of cargo and flew over 100 deliberate operations in support of ground forces. The recognition ceremony is at 9:00am at Rivers Edge Convention Center Saturday in St. Cloud.

--The 2017 Rock-n-Run is Saturday morning at the Belle Prairie Athletic Complex (soccer fields) north of Little Falls. You can still register for the event today from 3-7pm at the complex and again 7-8am on Saturday prior to the races. --Two judges separately sentenced two men Thursday for prostitution after both men previously pleaded guilty to agreeing to pay the same 15-year-old boy for sex. One of the defendants, 60-year-old Joseph Vincent Burton admitting engaging in sexual activity with the boy in exchange for money while the other defendant, 56-year-old Kenneth Neil Vilter denied any sexual contact but pleaded guilty to agreeing to pay the boy for sex. The boy told investigators that he had sexual contact with both men. The sentences came after plea agreements in which prosecutors agreed to a stay of imposition of the sentences if the cases were sentenced as felonies. The convictions will become misdemeanors if the men comply with the terms of their sentences.

--The Morrison County Animal Humane Society is preparing to host it's first Fur Ball fundraiser May 26th at the Falls Ballroom at 7:00pm. During the event, guests can enjoy wine or beer. There will be games, an auction and more will be going on during the evening. The Levi Pelzer Band will perform. All donations for the event go the help the Morrison County Humane Society. --Rocker Chris Cornell was found dead in a Detroit hotel Thursday. The 52-year-old was a major influence in grunge rock with his work from Soundgarden and Audioslave. Detroit police say the death is being investigated as a possible suicide.

--Media Mogul Roger Ailes died Thursday. Ailes was the man behind the creation of Fox News Channel. Ailes was 77.
