--The Minnesota DNR is reporting more than 120,000 deer harvested during the 9-day firearms deer season this year. Those numbers are down 10.5% compared to 2020 when more than 135,200 deer were harvested. The weather this past weekend was much more conducive for deer hunting but less people appeared to participate. Reportedly the majority of people chose to go out the first weekend. Some areas of the state have large deer numbers which includes Central Minnesota and reporting in that area of deer harvest was pretty good and kind of what was expected. It was northern and northeastern Minnesota that saw a bigger drop. There are still some opportunities for firearms deer hunting in northern Minnesota in what's called the 100 series or 300 series that continue in spots thorugh November 28th and the muzzleloader season starts November 27 and goes to December 12. Archery deer hunting can continue through the month of December. Details are on the DNR website.

--Minnesota's unemployment rate in October is back to where it was immediately before the global pandemic began in March 2020 at 3.5 percent. That's down two-tenths of a percentage point from September. The decline in the unemployment rate is primarily due to people going back to work, although the size of the labor force still shrank slightly by nearly 1,000 people. Minnesota's labor force participation rate remains down from before the pandemic at nearly 68 percent, compared to 70 percent in March of 2020. Minnesota's labor force is more than 84,000 workers smaller than spring of 2020.
