NEWS
–Good luck to the Pierz Pioneers football team in the state semi-finals tonight against Tri City United. There will be a send off in Pierz for the team this afternoon at 2:30pm on Main Street. All are invited to show their Pioneer Pride and root on the Pioneers. You can hear the game live tonight at 7:00pm on FM94 KFML.

–On Tuesday the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force conducted a search warrant at the address of 802 18th Avenue South, St. Cloud. Investigators learned that a party inside the residence was wanted on an outstanding warrant and may also have been in possession of a firearm. The suspect, 24-year old Miguel Moreno, no permanent address, is a person ineligible to possess a firearm. Due to the possible presence of this weapon the St. Cloud Police Department SWAT team assisted in the execution of the search warrant. During the search of the residence no firearm was located however numerous items of drug paraphernalia were located in various rooms. Moreno attempted to escape by breaking out a basement window however was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant. Also, present at the time of the search were other suspects with outstanding warrants 34-year old Amanda Karls of St. Cloud and 47-year old Robert Oneal of St. Cloud. All were taken into custody and later transported to the Stearns County Jail for booking.

–The Department of Natural Resources hopes all our firearm deer hunters out this weekend have a safe and successful hunt. They also ask that you follow all guidelines for the hunting weekend. Make sure you have a firearms deer hunting license and check if where you are hunting doesn’t have land issues. Contact your DNR Conservation officer or go to the DNR website for information on the guidelines.

–An Onamia mother is accused of slamming her 11 year old son’s head against a wall three times, choking and pushing him. 31-year-old Rachel Cash was charged Monday in Mille Lacs County District Court with three felonies of domestic assault and malicious punishment of a child. Her next court date is November 19th. Witnesses informed officers of the incident on October 31st and stated that the boy was struck and choked by Cash and that she was intoxicated at the time. Cash reportedly does have a criminal history of domestic violence.

–A jury Wednesday ruled that church offiicals were negligent in their oversight of a priest who abused a boy back in the 1970s in the Diocese of Duluth and awarded 8-million dollars to the victim. The lawsuit was filed in Ramsey in 2014 and was filed under the Minnesota Child Victims act. The victim testified that he was molested over a two week period by Rev. James Fitzgerald and church offiicals failed to supervise the priest which led then to a sexual assault agsint the victim. The jury decided in favor of the victim stating that the diocese was 60% liable and that the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the order that the priest belonged too was 40% liable in the settlement.

–A $1,000 reward is being offered for help finding a rural Crosby woman who disappeared two years ago. Dawn Carlson was last seen in Karlstad in Kittson County on October 2nd, 2013 after moving that year to Lake Bronson from the Crosby area. She was reportedly traveling to Brainerd or Badger on the 2nd but never arrived to her destination. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Carlson are asked to call 218-843-3535. The family had hired a private investigator to help get closure in the case but at this time no clues have turned up in her disappearance from that October night.

–A Rice man was struck and killed by a semitrailer Wednesday night. 29-year old Jeffrey Skroch was driving a semitrailer north on MN Highway 25 before 9:00pm when he stopped partially in the lane near Benton County Road 22. The State Patrol said it appears Skroch was standing outside the truck when another semi rear-ended his vehicle and struck him. Skroch died at the scene. The driver of the other semi, 31-year-old Christopher Marzofka of Wisconsin was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

–Stearns County Deputies were dispatched Wednesday around 11:30am to a residence in St. Joseph after a caller said a man was trapped under a forklift. The caller said their mechanic 32-year old Michael Vukelich was trapped under a forklift that he was working on. Vukelich had the forklift’s rear end raised and blocked on blocks. The forklift rolled forward and dropped off the blocks, pinning him under the forklift. Employees used a second forklift to raise the forklift off of him. Employees pulled Michael Vukelich from under the machine. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

–A Perham landlord who shot a tenant in September has taken a plea deal that calls for a 15-year prison sentence. 63-year old Gerald Skolte is set to plead guilty to second degree murder on December 17th in Otter Tail County District Court. Skolte shot Mike Marcell Jr. who was living in a trail on Skolte’s property. The two had a converstaion after an eviction notice was placed on Marcell’s trailer when he turned to walk away, Skolte shot him. Marcell survived.

–Motorists will find all lanes of Highway 25 through Buffalo open after a detour was lifted on Tuesday, November 3rd. Segments of Highway 25 south of Highway 55, through downtown Buffalo, have been closed since July 29, 2015 while crews reconstructed the road, improved underground utilities and made other improvements. The work was one part of a multi-year, multi-project plan to improve safety and mobility on Highway 25 in Buffalo and Wright County.

–Former U.S. Senator Norm Coleman on Facebook this week thanked his supporters in his fight against throat cancer. Coleman wrote “event in the darkest moments there is light”. Coleman had surgery last month but would not discuss his current condition on the page.

–The Pierz City Council meets at 7:00pm Monday night at city hall.

ACES= The Minnesota Flying Aces beat Rochester 7-5 last night to win their Deer Hunting Game at the Exchange Arena. The Aces are on the road tomorrow night. They return home on November 14th.
