NEWS
--Each summer the Pierz Freedom Fest is held at the Genola Ballfields featuring country music acts. As a result of the 2016 Freedom Fest success, they were able to donate $13,100 to area causes. The donations included $1,500 to the Morrison County Sherriff’s Office for supplies; $1,500 in scholarships to Pierz Healy High School; $1,600 for activities at the local assisted living facilities; $1,500 towards the Morrison County Chaplaincy Fund; $5,000 for St. Nick Night; $1,000 for the Pierz Lions new Oktoberfest Fireworks Funds; $500 went to Pioneer Student Council for the district’s Coats for Kids; and $500 to Rock, Roll, & Stroll. They wanted to thank everyone who made these donations possible. Next year's Pierz Freedom Fest is on July 15th.

--A Morrison County Commissioner - District 1 Candidate Forum, featuring incumbent Kevin Maurer and challenger Mike LeMieur starts at 9:00am today at the Randall Community Center.

--Firefighters from three departments responded to a hay shed fire early Thursday morning at 9047 320th Street in Stearns County. A passerby saw the 30 by 90 foot canvas arc structure partially engulfed in flames around 3:30am. The owners Urban and Mary Warnert told officers the building was filled with round bales. The building was a partial loss. No damage estimate available at this time. Wet hay bales stored in the shed are the suspected cause.

--A 22-year-old man with a permit to carry stopped a possible assault in a parking lot in St. Cloud. Officers were dispatched to an assault around Midnight on Thursday, October 6th. Officers were told a 22-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were walking to their car in the parking lot when they were approached by a man later identified as 30-year old Philip Keys of St. Cloud. Keys was dragging a baseball bat and asked them if they had ever been hit on the head by one. At that point the two victims began to walk away, but the report indicates Keys approached them and held the bat as though he was going to attack. The male victim holds a permit to carry and was carrying at the time. The male victim pointed the handgun at the suspect and told him to drop the bat. Keys dropped the bat and laid down on the ground before getting up and walking away. No shots were fired and neither of the victims were injured. Officers arriving later to the scene located Keys and took him into custody. Keys was being held in the Stearns County Jail facing second-degree assault charges.

--Weekend events include an opening reception at Great River Arts for Collaborations with Charles Kapsner, there will art work, poetry and music from Sestri and Harper's Chord tonight at 7pm. Saturday night a veterans program will be at GRA at 7pm, also Saturday there is the music event with Dr. Craig Jessop and many groups from St. Cloud State, St. John's, St. Ben's, local groups like Upsala Swanville Area Chorus and others 7:30pm at Camp Ripley free of charge. Bowl to build event Saturday at noon at LF Bowling Center for Habitat for Humanity, Oktoberfest at Randall VFW, Duetche Fest in St. Martin, Craft Fair at Brainerd schools free of charge, plus on Sunday a memorial mass with potluck to follow at 10:45am in Lastrup. --Hibbing Native Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Dylan was given the award for his poetric attributes to modern culture.

--The Little Falls City Council hold their next regular meeting on Monday night 7:30pm at City Hall.

--Around 120 ladies participated in Ladies Night Out Little Falls Style last night. Annette Zimmerman won the grand prize of a $1,000 gift certificate from Lin Furniture. --Last night at the 3rd Annual Kiwanis Trivia night they raised $3,250 toward Junior Acheivement of Morrison County. The winner was the Gammello, Qualley, Pearson and Mallak law firm which bid the most to get Little Falls City Administrator Jon Rademacher on their team. Little Falls Radio and Mid MN Federal Credit Union tied for 2nd place. The proceeds help the program which helps over 1,600 students.

--Ex-Minnesota Vikings player 68-year old Stu Voigt was sentenced Thursday in federal court to six months in prison and ordered to pay a $100,000 fine for his role in a bank fraud scheme. In February, a jury found Voigt guilty of defrauding a Bloomington bank. While serving as the bank's chairman, Voigt did not disclose debts his partner Jeffrey Gardner owed him when Gardner applied for a line of credit. Gardner was found guilty of 11 counts of fraud, including mail fraud, bank fraud, making false statements on a loan application. He was ordered to report to prison November 28th. Voigt played tight end for the Vikings from 1970 to 1980.

--A 55-year-old man may face charges after operating a forklift while under the influence. Officers were called Tuesday morning to a business at 115 Fourth Street North where they saw Steven Burnevik of Waite Park driving a forklift. While speaking with Burnevik officers said they were able to smell alcohol. Officers performed a field sobriety and breathalyzer test that indicated Burnevik having a BAC of .12 percent. Burnevik was taken to the Stearns County Jail and was released that day. Burnevik may face a third-degree DUI and driving after cancellation charges.

NFL= San Diego beat Denver last night 21-13. The Vikings have this weekend off for a bye week, they are at Philadelphia on the 23rd.
