NEWS
--A Brainerd woman was injured Wednesday around 6:30am on Highway 25 and 10th Avenue in Brainerd. 35-year-old Jessica Erickson of Brainerd was slowing to turn when her vehicle was struck by 21-year-old Brady Dartishofsky of Pierz. Police stated that Erickson had pulled out in front of the Dartishofsky vehicle and the two collided. Erickson was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. The police report stated that Daritshofsky was not injured.

--The city of Sartell received a gift that will aid in the growth of its community center and surrounding area. The city received a $50,000 donation from a St. Cloud based bank that will be used for the center's amenities. The community center includes three basketball courts, a walking track and a senior center. The community center is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by summer. The city budgeted $11 million for the project.

--St. Cloud firefighters used absorbent pads Wednesday afternoon to soak up a chemical that was leaking from a storm sewer culvert in southeast St. Cloud. Firefighters hadn't immediately determined what the oily substance was that was coming from the culvert near Riverside Avenue and Second Street Southeast. The city street department is investigating the source of the leak. Firefighters placed a temporary dike around the discharge of the culvert and plan to keep it there until the substance stops leaking out.

--St. Cloud State University reported this week that they have increased five-fold from the 2014-2015 school year on the number of sexual assaults reproted to offiicals on and around campus. The unviersity said there have been 19 incidents of sexual assault reported to the institution since the beginning of the 2015 school year. In six of the cases a perpetrator was found, but in 12 cases unfortunately there has been no resolution. The campus security report which showed the uptick in sexual assaults also show a decrease in burglaries, liquor law arrests and disciplinary referrals for liquor law and drug law violations.

--A motorist with a medical condition crashed into a pole Tuesday on Lake Forest Road in Baxter. The driver, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

--Cass County is looking for a missing Federal Dam man. Authorities have not released a lot of information only that they started searching late Tuesday and through Wednesday for a 66-year-old man who went missing after canoeing on Leech Lake.

--Sauk Rapids police stated a man robbed a Sauk Rapids restaurant Tuesday morning. Police stated the man with a ski-mask on brandished a handgun at Papa John's Pizza on Benton Drive just after 10:00am and demanded money. The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money. No one in the store was injured.

--Weekend events include a Halloween run for the Boys and Girls Club in Little Falls, Monroe's Crossing playing tonight at Great River Arts, meatballs in Milaca, a haunted house in North Prairie by youth group students, quilt bingo Sunday at Holy Trinity School in Pierz, fall dinner at Our Lady of Lourdes in Little Falls, fall dinner in Staples and another in Randall on Sunday and then Monday trick or treating fun in Little Falls (3:30-5) and Pierz (3-5:30pm) with many area businesses. --New signs honoring Jacob Wetterling have been posted along the Lake Wobegon Trail. The signs follow the #11forJacob movement encouraging people to practice the traits Jacob valued. The memorial stretches along 12 miles of trail starting at the St. Joseph’s Trailhead to just west of the Schwinghammer Lake Bridge, with each trait below the mile markers. Patty and Jerry Wetterling have walked the trail memorial since the signs were installed and are honored by the gesture. The memorial was made possible through many donations. Danny Heinrich confessed in court to abducting, sexually assaulting and killing Jacob Wetterling on October 22, 1989. His remains were found in a farm field in Paynesville in September. Heinrich is scheduled for sentencing in November 21st.

--The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has released it’s 2016-2017 Winter Outlook. Meteorologist Allie Keclik says we have about 50 to 55 inches of snow in a normal winter, and it’s likely we’ll be above that this winter. We can expected a colder and snowier winter than last year. Keclik says it’s also likely we will have near to below normal average temperatures. Last winter temperatures were five to seven degrees above normal. We had 30 to 36 inches of snow last year, which was 10 to 20 inches below normal. What’s the reason for the colder and snowier prediction for this winter? Forecasters are predicting a La Nina this winter. There have been 10 LaNina winters since 1950, the last one was the winter of 2005-2006.
