NEWS
–A Little Falls man was injured Thursday in a rollover in Ripley Township, according to the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said 24-year old Sullivan Keehr was driving east on 233rd Street before 2:30pm when his vehicle left the road, hit a road approach and rolled. Keehr was treated and released at the scene.

–One person was killed Thursday in Crow Wing County when 66-year-old Tereron Dingman of Brainerd was on a motorcycle that crossed the center line and struck an SUV driven by 44-year-old Richelle Vroman. Dingman died at the scene. Vroman and her 2 passengers ages 14 and 13 were taken to the hospital for injuries.

–Fires sparked quickly Thursday with warm and windy conditions including a 50 acre fire northwest of Onamia that multiple agencies had to work on through the afternoon. There were no injuries. Nisswa firefighters battled a roof/attic fire at a home on Pelican Lake Road while tackling a number of grass fires of their own Thursday. Then on Friday more fires reported including a grass fire that started a garage and home on fire in Barrows south of Brainerd. One of the two garages near the home was a total loss and there was damage to the other garage and exterior damage to the house.

–Quick action by sheriff’s deputies and witnesses helped two people Friday from Rice Lake who were thrown from their boat. The boat struck the female passenger causing her to be seriously injured. She was airlifted to HCMC in Minneapolis. The male passenger in the boat was not hurt. Deputies were able to get them across the Mill Avenue Bridge and bring to them to safety around 6:00pm Friday. No names were released by the sheriff’s office.

–One person was killed, five others including two young children (ages 3 and 7) were seriously injurly in a two-vehicle accident Friday night in Meeker County. The State Patrol said the accident just after 11:30pm occurred when a driver went through a stop sign and broadsided another vehicle. One of the drivers was killed. The five others were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries.

–A 40-year-old from Remer was injured Friday around 6:30pm on Highway 200 in Cass County. Jeremy Frye sustained non life threatening injuries in the accident.

–Wednesday, 50 students from the area were honored by the National Joint Powers Alliance for their ability to persevere when faced with adversity. Those reconigzed as Region 5 Rising Stars from Morrison, Crow Wing, Todd, Cass and Wadena included Ben Hegna and Travis Stoner of Little Falls, Darian Fakhri and Jonathon Kapsner of Pierz, Monty Sieben and Ryan Klosowski of Royalton, Ethan Och and Kaleb Kjeldergaard of Swanville, Brandon Wolbeck and Noah Pundsack of Upsala, Jordan Ausland of Pillager Charter School, Benjamin Dumbeck and Summer Alexander of Pillager High School, Emilee Etzler and Obed Lozano of Staples Motley, Paige Callahan and Rakel Bryniarski of Browerville, Cassandra Smith and Kierra Chavez-Ramirez of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. In addition to receiving an award the students also receive scholarships with most receiving a $250 scholarship with some receiving larger amounts. They also received a gifts including computers, gift cards and desk lamps.

–The Little Falls City Council meets tonight 7:30pm at the city hall council chambers. Work session begins at 6:30pm tonight.

–The Class A State Speech Tournament was held Friday. Cannon Falls won top honors but Staples-Motley received five medals which went to Zach Strickland, Lucas Jimenez, Coleman Klimek, Alex Erickson and Olivia Klefsaas. Jacob Polovick of Browerville also medal winner.

–Around 5:00am Wednesday the Lakes Area Drugs Investigative Division executed a search warrant at a residence located on the 5100 block of County Road 77, in connection with an ongoing investigation into the sale and distribution of methamphetamine. Three were taken into custody and are currently being held in the Crow Wing County Jail. In addition to finding several grams of meth, agents located an indoor marijuana growing operation behind a false wall in the basement. Numerous firearms were also located of which some were confirmed stolen. Agents continue to try and locate other possible owners of the firearms. Charges on the three individuals arrested range from 5th degree drug possession, and 3rd degree drug sale. Arrested were 30-year old Zachary John Grunst of Brainerd, 26-year old Sean Paul Streiff of Fort Ripley, and 37-year old Christon Marie Shepard of Longville.

–A Benton County judge Thursday sentenced 23-year old Tom Souvannaphong of St. Cloud to seven years in prison. Souvannaphong was driving 50-60 mph on Second Street North on August 9th when he ran a red light at Benton Drive and hit a vehicle with three occupants. Responders pronounced Hibbing residents Kathy and Kevin Davey dead at the scene. A criminal complaint said Souvannaphong had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.101 percent that night and was convicted of driving under the influence in 2014. Souvannaphong entered an Alford plea in February. He agreed the court would convict him on two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and accepted a seven-year sentence.

–Good Luck to Wanda Gau of Little Falls competing today as one of the seeded runners in the Boston Marathon.

NFL= The NFL released their 2016 regular season schedule. It begins Sept 8th on Thursday with Carolina at Denver. The Vikings open up Sept 11th at Tennessee with their U.S. Bank Stadium regular season home opener against the Green Bay Packers on September 18th at 7:30pm on Sunday Night Football. The Vikings schedule includes Monday Night games against the Giants and Chicago, Thursday against Dallas and a Thanksgiving Day game with Detroit.
WILD= Dallas Stars beat Minnesota Wild 2-1 Saturday to go up 2-0 in series, game 3 of the playoffs tonight in St. Paul.
