NEWS
–The Pierz Pioneer football coach Leo Pohlkamp was one of four high school coaches inducted into the coaches hall of fame this past Saturday. Pohlkamp was the Class 3A coach of the year and led the Pioneers to an undefeated state championship, (his second state title). Also honored for 50 years of service was Con Natvig who is now in Browerville. Before his time in Browerville Natvig spent many years in Swanville as athletic director and football/baseball coach.

–Crow Wing County District Court has ruled that 26-year-old Nathan David Becker is competent to stand trial for his role in a double shooting in Brainerd in 2015 that killed one and critically injured another. Becker appeared in court Thursday on a Rule 20 hearing where attorneys and the judge stated they have discussed the proceedings with Becker and both sides have agreed to move forward with the trial. Next step is jury selection beginning May 9th and the jury trial beginning May 16th. Becker is charged with aiding and abetting Tyler Cronquist in the shootings of Joseph Kroll, who later died and Chelsey Crawford. Cronquist is charged with second degree murder with intent and attempted second degree murder.

–A St. Cloud man was charged with two counts of attempted murder Friday in the shooting of a 21-year-old man Wednesday in St. Cloud. 18-year old Nathaniel Leon Smith of St. Cloud is accused of shooting Antoine Dajuan Fair three times outside a residence in the 100 block of 18th Avenue North in St. Cloud. Fair is in critical condition at St. Cloud Hospital with bullets lodged in his brain and jaw. The judge set bail for Smith at $1 million without conditions and $500,000 with several conditions. The next court hearing is set for April 11.

–The Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce has named Cindy Molitor as April Employee of the Month. Molitor has worked at Wal-Mart for 23 years and is the department manager of fabrics, crafts, stationary and celebrations. Congratulations Cindy Molitor, Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce April employee of the month.

–Motorists who use Crow Wing County Road 107/Wilderness Road to access Cullen Lake and other areas of Pequot Lakes may encounter delays beginning Monday, April 11, when the south junction of County Road 107 at Highway 371 closes. The closures are part of the Highway 371 four-lane expansion project in Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and Jenkins. All lanes of Highway 371, and the north junction of County Road 107/Highway 371, will remain open. A signed detour will direct motorists to the north junction of County Road 107/Highway 371, two miles north of the County Road 107/Wilderness Road and Highway 371 junction. County Road 107/Wilderness Road at Highway 371 will reopen in September.

–Two people received minor injuries after a fire early Friday morning in Lake Henry, according to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office. 56-year old Victoria Goetzke and 53-year old Ronald Goetzke, 53, awoke to the smell of smoke in the house and went downstairs to find a fire in the kitchen at about 1:20am. The two were able to escape the house. They suffered minor smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Lake Henry Fire Department and Paynesville Ambulance responded to the house fire on Minnesota Highway 4, along with the Sheriff’s Office.

–Army Colenol Johanna P. Clyborne was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General during a pinning ceremony on Saturday in Rosemount. Clyborne is the first woman to achieve the rank of Brigadier General in the Minnesota Army National Guard.

–Musician and instructor, William Campbell Robbins, better known to the area as Celo V’ec died last week at 66. V’ec was a string instructor and orchestra director at the St. Francis Music Center in Little Falls. Before that he played in many countries and performed in 2013 at the 60th Anniverary of the Yale Russian Chorus which he joined in 1967. He is also responsible for helping the Sestri which performs in the area get together after hearing in 1969 the first women’s Yale Slavic Chorus devoted to Balkan music. A celebration of life for Celo V’ec will be held Sunday at First Lutheran Church.

–Two people were injured Thursday morning around 11:30am on Riverside Avenue in Le Sauk Township of Stearns County. 63-year-old Jerome Langer of Sartell was northbound when according to the sheriff’s office he failed to stop and drove into the rear of a vehicle attempting a left turn driven by 71-year-old Ralph Janski of Sartell. Langer was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for injuries. Janski had minor injuries but was not hospitalized from the accident.

–A Becker boy was injured after the vehicle he was driving rolled on U.S. Highway 10 Saturday morning. The Minnesota State Patrol said 17-year old Noah Moody of Becker was heading east on Highway 10 just outside of Big Lake around 8:00am Saturday when he lost control and over corrected his vehicle. The vehicle ended up rolling several times before stopping in the center median. Moody received non-life threatening injuries.

–Dr. Michael Neudecker, a physician at CHI St. Gabriel’s Health and the Family Medical Center for 34 years, retired from his practice, March 31st. A retirement celebration in his honor will be hosted Thursday, from 4-6pm in the Family Medical Center lobby so patients and the public can attend and give well wishes to Dr. Neudecker.
