NEWS
--On Saturday before the Twins games in the Ford Center which is across from Target Field, WYRQ's Al Windsperger accepted the award for WYRQ as the winner of the 5th Annual John Gordon Award Radio Affiliate of the Year. In winning the award, WYRQ received a $5,000 grant to give back to the community. The money will be given to the Little Falls Youth Baseball Field project. President of the Little Falls Youth Baseball Association Rusty Gwost was with Al Saturday and accepted the donation. The Award is given to the Minnesota Twins Radio Affiliate that has given back to their local baseball community in promoting the Twins and baseball and youth programs in the area. WYRQ began broadcasting the Twins in the late 80s around the time the Twins won their first World Series.

--Cass County is searching for a missing person from rural Motley. Authorities are trying to search 22-year-old Alice Whim who went missing from a group home facility in rural Motley on Friday morning. Whim is 5 feet tall, 100 pounds, wearing gray sweatpants and a red shirt, brown hair and olive colored eyes. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Alice Whim call Cass County at (218) 547-1424.

--A 23-year-old Brainerd man was charged Thursday with second-degree attempted murder with intent after allegedly stabbing his brother in the neck at a residence on the 4000 block of Sweet Road in Brainerd. Jacob Thomas Lovejoy was arraigned in Crow Wing County District Court on the attempted murder charge, along with felony first-degree assault to cause great bodily harm. A Rule 8 hearing was scheduled for 8:30am Monday for Lovejoy. Lovejoy denied having stabbed the victim and claimed he had been assaulted by him. The victim identified as Lovejoy's 27-year old brother had surgery last week and was listed in stable condition.

--The Todd County Sheriff’s Office is looking for assistance in locating 47-year old Alan Michael Thomas of Osakis. Alan left his residence in Osakis on August 4th and traveled to Blaine to visit friends. He planned to return home the same day but his family and friends have not seen or heard from him since. Alan has medical issues that require him to take daily medication. It is also unusual for him not to be in contact with family and authorities and his family are concerned for his welfare. Alan is described as 5’8”, 185 pounds with green eyes and bald. He is driving a 2008, charcoal gray Scion TC with a spoiler on the back with Minnesota license plate 039-NEH. He has a tattoo of “Thomas” across his shoulder blades and a Japanese tattoo on his shoulder. Alan also has circular scars on his head from surgeries. --The Morrison County Sheriff's Office reported in the past week a complaint of spray painted obsencities on a driveway at Camp Shamineau, arrested a 36-year-old for domestic assault, arrested a 36-year-old in Foley for driving while intoxicated, aided with police in an arrest of a 54-year-old woman for a harassment restraining order violation and a 53-year-old man for domestic assault. Police also continue to take calls of late night suspicious activity. Most of those cases police say are related to the Pokemon Go craze.

--The Little Falls City Council meets tonight 7:30 at City Hall while the Little Falls School Board is scheduled to meet at 5:00pm today at the government center boardroom.

--A special thank you to all who attended the Morrison County Fair this past weekend in Little Falls. Which included the announcment of the Morrison County Senior Citizen Award winners: Female Winner-Betty DeVriendt; Male Winner- Frank Rebnord they will now compete at the State Fair on September 1st east of St. Paul. The 2nd Annual Hay Bale contest winner was the snowman haybale created by a local 4H club, 2nd place was the tractor created by the Ag Learning Center and 3rd place was the Merry Go Round by the Schuberts. Thanks to all provided haybales to the fair this year.

--Two people were hurt Friday night near the Grand Casino in Mille Lacs County. Around 9:15pm, 59-year-old Kenneth Mitchell of Onamia was pulling a boat trailer on Highway 169 when he stopped at the lights by the casino. A vehicle in the left lane struck the rear of the trailer which caused a chain reaction with two other vehicles. Mitchell was not hurt. Two of his passengers, 42-year-old Dallas Anderson of Onamia and 60-year-old Wayne Boyd of Minneapolis were taken to the hospital for injuries ruled not serious. The drivers and passengers in the other three vehicles involved had no injuries.

--A 50-year-old from Brainerd was injured in a moped accident Thursday around 8:00pm on Ninth Avenue Northeast in Brainerd. Todd L. Mattsen was treated at the Brainerd hospital for injuries.

--the actor that brought R2D2 to life in the 1977 film Star Wars and the two following films, has died, Kenny Baker was 81.

OLY= U.S. men and women basketball wins Friday, then on Sunday U.S. Men avoid a comeback scare to France winning 100-97, while women roll Sunday thanks to 13 points from Fowles and Whalen off bench to win 105-62. U.S Women's Soccer beaten in knockout round in a shootout to Sweden Friday. Katie Ledecky wins 4th Gold medal in swimming, Michael Phelps takes silver and gold in finals races, said he will not compete in 2020. U.S. now at 69 total medals.
TWINS= Kansas City beat Twins Friday 7-3. Twins come back to win on Saturday 5-3 over KC. Royals rout Twins 11-4 on Sunday. Twins have today off and travel to Atlanta tomorrow night.
VIKINGS= Vikings hold off Cincinnati 17-16 in first preason game.
REGION 8C= Nisswa defeated Sobieski 6-3 Saturday to win the 2016 Region 8C Championship. State Tournament begins Saturday for Lastrup and Sobieski, Ft. Ripley Sunday and next week for Nisswa. The State Tournament begins this week, Lastrup plays Saturday 1:30, Sobieski at 7:30pm, Sunday Ft. Ripley plays at noon, and Nisswa received a bye for the first weekend and will play next weekend.
