NEWS
--One person is dead and another seriously injured from a two-vehicle accident Thursday around 6:30pm in Brainerd. The accident happened on Business Highway 371 when 40-year-old Gerrey Stevenson of Little Falls crossed the center line on 371 and crashed head on with 57-year-old Ray Demars of Brainerd. Demars was dead when authorities arrived on scene. Stevenson, who was not wearing his seatbelt was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale to be treated for serious injuries.

--Around 1:30pm Friday the Morrison County Sheriff s Office received a call regarding a 17-year old who was injured while tubing on Lake Shamineau. The seventeen year old female was riding in a tube being pulled behind a boat when the tube flipped. The juvenile was complaining of back pain and was taken by ambulance to Lakewood Health Systems Hospital in Staples. The juvenile was wearing a floatation device at the time of the accident.

--Two people received injuries that were deemed non life-threatening and a third received no apparent injuries in a two-vehicle collision at 8:53am Friday on Minnesota Highway 23 near milepost 210 east of U.S. Highway 10 in Benton County. 47-year old Timothy Murphy of St. Cloud was driving south on 31st Avenue, attempting to cross eastbound Highway 23 when the vehicle struck a truck driven by 64-year old Robert Stommes of St. Cloud. Murphy's vehicle rolled and landed in the right ditch. Stommes and his passenger, 58-year old Diane Stommes of St. Cloud, received injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

--Filing continues for city, county and township elections until August 16th at 5:00pm. On Thursday, Robin Hensel filed for City Council Ward 1 in Little Falls. Tomorrow is Primary Election Day. There are a number of primary elections around the state but none for Morrison County. To view a complete list of primary elections for Tuesday you can log on to the secretary of state's website.

--A serious injury accident in Otter Tail County Thursday night happened around 10:00pm. 35-year-old Nicholas Rothstein of Freeport was operating a semi-truck when he turned onto Highway 10 from Frazee and collided with a smaller vehicle causing that vehicle to leave the roadway and roll. 28-year-old Scotty Jay of West Fargo, North Dakota sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Fargo hospital. Rothstein was not hurt.

--Authorities suspect the fire that destroyed a landmark restaurant in Emily on June 29 was intentionally set. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety State Fire Marshal Division and local authorities are asking the public to call the Minnesota Arson Hotline at 1-800-723-2020 with any information about the fire at the Bungalow Tap House. Callers can remain anonymous and there is a reward offered for an arrest and conviction in the case. When firefighters arrived flames were coming out of the structure and the roof was beginning to cave in. The fire started in the back dining room area and took over most of the restaurant. Firefighters had to fight the flames and smoke from the exterior. Around 40 firefighters from Emily, Crooked Lake, Fifty Lakes, Crosslake and Ideal were called to help with the fire. This investigation is still active and ongoing.

--The Pierz City Council meets tonight 7pm at Pierz City Hall.

--A Cass Lake woman was injured Friday night around 6:20pm on Highway 10 in Morrison County. 53-year-odl Louisa White was on Highway 10 when she ran off the road and hit several signs. White was taken to a hospital with non life threatening injuries.

--A former member of the a cappella band Tonic Sol-Fa has been charged in Stearns County with theft by swindle, accused of taking nearly $30,000 from the group. 45-year old Mark Thomas McGowan is charged with one count of felony theft by swindle.

--A man who died last week after he was shot by agents from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension had apparently charged at authorities with a knife while they were working an undercover investigation into underage prostitution, police said Thursday. Authorities identified the man as 31-year old Adam Jo Klimek of Alexandria. Klimek died Tuesday after he was shot. According to the St. Paul Police Department, which is handling the investigation, BCA agents were in Alexandria working an undercover operation involving the solicitation of minors when they encountered Klimek inside a home. Police did not release details about what Klimek was doing. They said when Klimek was told he was being arrested, he charged at three agents with a knife. Two agents — Elizabeth Eilers and Dustin Van der Hagen — shot at Klimek. Authorities said the agents immediately rendered aid and called paramedics. Klimek died at the scene. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine Klimek’s cause of death. Details of the prostitution investigation were not immediately released.

TWINS= Twins win Friday 6-2 over Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay got the Twins back winning 7-3 Saturday and Twins rebounded to win Sunday over Rays 6-3. Twins host Houston 6:30 tonight on Q92.
OLY= U.S. Women Basketball wins over Senagal Sunday 121-56. Men on Saturday rout China 119-62. US Womens Soccer beat New Zealand and France in first two games, Michael Phelps wins 19th medal in Olympic career, and gymnastics doing well. After first weekend, U.S. leads medal count with 12 total, 3 gold.
REGION 8C= On Saturday: Lastrup wins in 11 to eliminate Avon 3-2, Sobieski shut out Buckman 4-0 to advance to state. Nisswa beat Ft. Ripley 5-3. The same four teams from last year will be Class C State Tournament teams this year, Lastrup 4 seed, Ft. Ripley 3 seed and Sobieski and Nisswa will play for region title Saturday on KLTF.
HS= All Sports meeting for Pierz is tonight registration begins at 6:30 at the MAC, the all sports meeting for Little Falls is Thursday night.
