NEWS
–One person was hurt Thursday afternoon around 3:10pm on Highway 10 at St. Germain Street in St. Cloud. 49-year-old Barry Derosier of Little Falls was driving a semi truck and stopped for a railroad crossing which caused 46-year-old Wayne Moen of Rice to strike the back of the semi and a third vehicle driven by 27-year-old Travis Bitker of Bemidji to strike the Moen vehicle. Moen had to be extricated from his vehicle and taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. The other two drivers were not hurt.

–The Pierz City Council meets tonight at 7:00pm at Pierz City Hall. Agenda items include Senator Mary Kiffmeyer honoring the drive in now called Sue’s Drive In in Pierz on their 50th anniversary. Other items include letter agreement with Minnesota Power, energy insights update, Morrison County Attorney contract, crosswalk concerns, Christmas Street lighting and certification of the 2016 Levy. Before the 7:00pm meeting will be the truth and taxation hearing at 6:00pm where they will finalize the final budget and levy proposal.

–A St. Cloud woman is facing charges after investigators concluded she was involved in helping hide two Lakeville teens. 51-year old Deirdre Elise Evavold is facing two charges of deprivation of custodial rights. According to a press release, Evavold was involved in helping hide Samantha and Gianna Rucki, who had been missing for more than two years. The release said it is believed that Evavold, along with the girl’s mother Sandra Grazzini-Rucki, dropped the two girls off at White Horse Ranch near Herman in western Minnesota. The girls left their Lakeville home in April 2013 during a divorce and custody dispute between their parents. Grazzini- Rucki was charged in October with deprivation of custodial rights. The two sisters were found at White Horse Ranch in November. The owners of White Horse Ranch, Gina and Doug Dahlen, were also charged with deprivation of custodial rights. Evavold’s home was searched in October. Police took computers, cellphones and electronic storage devices. According to a search warrant filed in Stearns County District Court, Evavold had been in contact with Grazzini-Rucki after the girls disappeared. Search warrants also showed that Evavold had sent emails to a lawyer who had been working with Grazzini-Rucki two days after the girls went missing. Grazzini-Rucki’s Facebook page also showed activity with the IP address tracking to Evavold’s home.

–A Brainerd man was arrested Wednesday on electronic solicitation of a child to engage in sexual activity. 23-year-old Joseph Nelson was charged with fourth degree criminal sexual conduct after police received reports of inapporpriate messages between Nelson and at least two minors. Additional information revealed another instance of criminal sexual conduct with one of the victims. As of Friday morning, Nelson was in the Crow Wing County Jail awaiting arraignment.

–A 39-year-old from Brainerd was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon around 5:00pm on Thiesse Drive and Crow Wing County Road 45. 16-year-old Athena Moe of Fort Ripley was south on 45 as 39-year-old Daniel Larson was east on Thiesse Drive when the vehicles collided. Larson reportedly suffered severe injuries that had him airlifted to North Memorial in Robbinsdale. Larson was in critical condiiton late Thursday. Moe was not injured.

–St. Cloud Hospital’s vice president of hospital operations and chief nursing officer, Linda Chmielewski, will retire December 31st. She joined the hospital in 1981 as its critical care coordinator. Five years later, she was promoted to director of inpatient services. She became vice president in 1991 and three years later took on her current role.

–Congratulations to Pierz Healy High School’s 2015-2016 ExCEL recipients: Taryn Becker and Lukas Otte. ExCEL stands for -Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership – is a unique recognition program sponsored by the MSHSL designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, who show Leadership qualities, and who are model citizens.

–Three teenagers were involved in an accident Saturday night just after 9pm on 4th Street SW in Brainerd. 17-year-old Rylee Nash was traveling south and according to the state patrol was traveling too fast for the curve, hit the curb and left the road. Nash sustained serious injuries in the accident. Nash’s two passengers ages 19 and 18 had no apparent injuries in the accident.

–A Glenwood man was being held in Stearns County Jail on Thursday after he was charged in Stearns County District Court with one count of third-degree sexual assault and one count of fourth-degree sexual assault. Bail was set at $75,000 for 39-year old John David Whittemore who was arrested early Wednesday after Stearns deputies were called to the VFW bar in Belgrade to deal with a complaint of a disorderly patron. A criminal complaint accuses Whittemore of sexual contact with a woman at the bar. The complaint says Whittemore stayed at the bar after she asked him to leave.

–The Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force executed a search warrant early Friday morning on 13th Street Southeast in St. Cloud. The warrant was for 36-year-old Daniel Castillo of St. Paul who had a warrant for his arrest on aggravated robbery. The SWAT Team along with the task force and others located Castillo around 2:00am and took him into custody without incident. A 9mm handgun was found where Castillo was located. The Task Force is comprised of a number of police and sheriff’s departments including Little Falls Police and the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office.
