NEWS
–St. Cloud police are searching for a group of four suspects who they say stole more than $4,300 worth of cigarettes from grocery stores in St. Cloud. The men stole from two different stores on two separate occasions. On December 18th around 2:40am police say they stole $2,700 in cigarette cartons from Cash Wise Foods on Fourth Street Southeast. Then on Wednesday at 4:00am, police say they stole around $1,600 in cigarettes from Coborn’s on Cooper Avenue South. Anyone with information regarding the thefts is asked to call the St. Cloud Police Department or Tri-County Crime Stoppers.

–State Senator John Pederson announced Friday he will not seek a third term in November. The St. Cloud Republican decided to leave the Senate to have more time for his family and professional career. Pederson, a former St. Cloud City Council member, was elected to the state Senate in 2010 and reelected in 2012. His District 14 covers St. Cloud, St. Augusta, Waite Park and Haven and Minden townships.

–Two men were injured Friday morning in a collision near Big Fish Lake. 21-year old William Lehn of Avon was driving north on Stearns County Road 50 near the lake when he lost control on the icy road around 6:45am. Lehn’s vehicle collided with another vehicle driven south by 43-year-old Scott Philippi of Albany. Both men were taken to St. Cloud Hospital by ambulance.

–Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ announced Thursday their offices in Sauk Rapids and Montrose will move to a new site in Sauk Rapids. The new address, 1035 South Benton Drive, is about one block from the current Sauk Rapids office. The move is expected in early February. The move will consolidate staff, equipment and supplies. It will house the divisions of fish and wildlife, parks and trails, ecological and water resources, and enforcement.

–Investigators arrested five people Thursday after finding fake money and items used in counterfeiting during a search of a New Munich residence. The Melrose Police Department and Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force assisted with the execution of a search warrant at 141 Seventh Ave. East. Investigators found several counterfeit bills, electronics, paper products and other items used in the production and distribution of counterfeit money. Several individuals at the residence during the search gave false names to investigators, and a fingerprint identification system was required to identify those people. Arrested on outstanding warrants were 32-year old Daniel Peterson of New Munich, 27-year old Brittany Jensen, 54-year old Michael Jensen, 27-year old Johanna Avery, and 43-year old Richard Penaz all of whom listed no permanent address. Two other individuals present during the search were not arrested.

–A 28-year-old man is jailed after a head-on crash that killed an elderly driver in Isanti County Wednesday afternoon. The Minnesota State Patrol says the suspect swerved across the center line on Highway 65 near Braham about 3:45pm and struck a vehicle head-on. He is being held in the Isanti County jail on pending charges of criminal vehicular homicide. A Mora man, 70-year-old Robert Palmen, was killed in the crash. His 69-year-old wife suffered non-life threatening injuries. Two others in a third vehicle were uninjured.

–A East Gull Lake 20-year-old was injured Friday morning just after 11:30am on Highway 371 at Ojibwa Road in Crow Wing County. Madison Lansdburg was northbound and was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by 37-year-old Robert Ressen of Brainerd who went through the intersection. Landsburg was treated for non-life threatening injuries while Ressen was not injured.

–A 35-year-old from Randall was injured Saturday around 4:45pm on Highway 10 at Highway 115 in Randall. 65-year-old Duane Rausch was southbound on Highway 10 attempting to turn left onto 115 when he was hit broadside by a northbound vehicle driven by Brandon Booten. Booten was treated for injuries sustained in the accident while Rausch had no apparent injuries.

–Little Falls Community High School seniors Melanie Dorn and Thomas Miller have been selected to represent Region 8AA in the Acedemics, Arts, and Athletics award program (Triple A). The award is presented to high school seniors who have a “B” or better grade point average and who participate in Minnesota State High School League sponsored athletic and fine arts activities. Melanie Dorn is the daughter of Bob and Kathy Dorn. She has participated in volleyball, basketball, track, and band. Thomas Miller is the son of Tom and Barb Miller. He has participated in football, hockey, baseball and choir. The Pierz High School also announced their triple A award winners as Aaron Weber and Stephanita ZumBerge who will compete on the 27th.

–Airline passengers will need more secure driver’s licenses called Real ID starting January 22nd, 2018 if they want to use them as identification at airport checkpoints, the Department of Homeland Security announced Friday. Driver’s licenses will be valid for travel identification in any state until the deadline. A passport could always be used as an alternative form of identification. Still, the license requirement could become a challenge after the deadline for travelers in five states and a territory – Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Washington and American Samoa – that don’t comply with Real ID standards.

Saturday its Kansas City at New England followed by Green Bay at Arizona. Sunday Carolina hosts Seattle as Pittsburgh travels to Denver. All live on AM960 KLTF.
