NEWS
--One person was killed Friday just before 7:00pm on Highway 15 near County Road 1 between Sartell and Sauk Rapids in Stearns County. The State Patrol said 33-year-old Sheena Grimstad of Sauk Rapids was north on 15 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck a light pole at a county road. A second vehicle was stopped for a red light when it was struck by Grimstad after it careened off the light pole back into the northbound lane. Grimstad was taken to the hospital where she later died. The second driver, Christina Hasselbring of St. Joseph was treated for non serious injuries.

--A St. Cloud woman was injured early Saturday on Highway 10 in Benton County. 22-year-old Brittany Brunt-Collins was traveling north on 10 when she collided with a deer running across the roadway. Brunt-Collins sustained non-life threatening injuries.

--The Commission on Judicial Selection announced Friday it is recommending three candidates to Governor Mark Dayton for consideration to fill the current vacancy in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District. This vacancy was created upon the retirement of the Honorable David R. Battey. The new judge will be chambered at Alexandria in Douglas County. The three candidates are Judge Amy Chantry who is a contract Administrative Law Judge in the Minnesota Office of Administrative Hearings, a solo practitioner, an attorney at St. Cloud State University Student Legal Services. Judge Chantry volunteers at high school mock trial tournaments and for various student activities at Sauk Rapids Rice Middle School and High School. Timothy Churchwell: Mr. Churchwell is a shareholder at Peters & Churchwell, P.A. and is also an Assistant Seventh District Judicial District Public Defender. He is a member of the Todd-Wadena Community Corrections Board and Swanville Lion’s Club, and past chair of the Todd County Law Library Board of Trustees. Michelle Clark is an Assistant Douglas County Attorney. Ms. Clark serves on the Domestic Abuse Taskforce, the Douglas County Coalition on Mental Health, and the Legal Office Advisory Committee at Alexandria Technical and Community College. Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District consists of Morrison, Becker, Benton, Clay, Douglas, Mille Lacs, Otter Tail, Stearns, Todd, and Wadena Counties. An announcement of the appointment will be made following an interview process over the next few weeks.

--An Albany man was hurt in a rollover early Friday morning. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says it happened at 4:00am on County Road 39 in Albany Township, about five miles northwest of Albany. Forty-nine-year-old Steven Ritter says he fell asleep at the wheel. His vehicle drifted into the ditch, striking a road approach, and rolled. Ritter was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

--A former Waite Park man was sentenced in Stearns County on Thursday to almost 8 years in prison for engaging in sex trafficking with an individual younger than 18. 21-year old Alex Trent Hazelrigg pleaded guilty in September to the felony charge after officers investigating a Waite Park shooting in 2014 found a 16-year-old runaway who told police she was being trafficked by Hazelrigg and another man. Two other felony charges related to the incident were dismissed Thursday. He was sentenced to 94 months with credit for 273 days served. As part of his sentence, Hazelrigg will be required to register as a predatory offender.

--The Little Falls City Council holds their next regular council meeting tonight at 7:30pm at Little Falls City Hall. Also a reminder from the city of Little Falls that voting for residents of the City of Little Falls will be Tuesday from 7:00am to 8:00pm. For those in Ward 1- south of Highway 27 and the east portion of Little Falls voting is at the Inititiave Foundation. Ward 2 residents who live north of Highway 27 and on the east portion of Little Falls will vote at City Hall and those on the west side of Little Falls in Ward 3 vote at Lincoln Elementary School. Also if you live in the townships contact your local township representative for voting times and if you live in other cities of Morrison County contact your government official or the Government Center.

--Two people were hurt in a four-vehicle accident Friday in Wadena County. Just after 3:00pm, a pickup pulling a trailer was east on Highway 10 when the vehicle in front of it stopped fast, causing the pickup to rear-end it pushing the vehicle in front to start a chain reaction and strike the vehicle in front of that and so forth with a 4th vehicle. 32-year-old John Larson of Henning and 56-year-old Denise Harbison were taken to the Wadena hospital for treatment of injuries. Other drivers including a 45-year-old from Motley was not injured.

--A Motley man was injured Friday night on Highway 210 in Cass County. 31-year-old Travus Faulkner was at a stop sign on County Road 1 when he started southward and struck the driver's side of an oncoming vehicle. Faulkner sustained injuries and was treated at the Brainerd hospital. The other driver 18-year-old Hannah Reynolds of Brainerd and her passenger were not injured.

--The Morrison County Commissioners meet Tuesday at 9am at the government center boardroom.

COL FB= Gophers hold off Purdue 44-31 Saturday to go 7-2 on year.
NFL= Vikings blow opportunities and end up losing to Detroit in overtime yesterday 22-16 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Vikings now 5-3.
CC= congratulations to Tyler Moore of Little Falls finishing 15th at State Cross County meet Saturday in Northfield in Class AA boys run. 9Th Grader Kira Sweeney of Staples Motley finished 7th in Class A girls. Jordon Malikowski of Royalton was 40th, Jake Andres of Pierz 74th, Hunter Zupko of Little Falls was 81st. Holdingford and Staples-Motley had others compete. Mora, Wayzata, Fairmont & Edina won as teams.
