NEWS
–Around 2:20pm on Thursday the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a motorcycle accident on Dove Road south of Bear Road near Randall. 67-year old James Mattson of Motley, was traveling north on Dove Road when a deer ran out in front of him on the roadway. Mattson hit the deer and was ejected from his motorcycle. Mattson was transported to St. Gabriel’s Hospital by ambulance with unknown injuries. Mattson’s motorcycle was totaled as a result of the accident.

–A Pierz woman was injured Friday morning on Highway 169 seven miles north of Onamia. 86-year old Eleanor Skochenski of Pierz was pulling out of a gas station to head north on 169 when her vehicle was struck by a truck heading south on 169. The other driver, 32-year old David Mott of Onamia was not injured. Skochenski suffered non life threatening injuries.

–A St. Cloud man is accused of assaulting a woman and threatening her child, according to court documents filed in Stearns County District Court. According to multiple criminal complaints, 19-year old Koffi-Messu Assoa Adou of St. Cloud faces seven charges from incidents on October 16th and 17th including fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, false imprisonment, two counts of domestic assault, domestic assault by strangulation, terrorist threats and malicious punishment of a child. Adou was being held in Stearns County Jail on Thursday with bail set at $60,000.

–Farm equipment without lights or reflectors caused a collision Thursday west of Sauk Centre. A southbound Eagle Talon approached a southbound tractor pulling a round baler on Stearns County Road 183 in Ashley Township. 30-year old Jose Manuel Diaz Torres of Sauk Centre, swerved to avoid hitting the dark baler that was also blocking the tractor’s lights. His car struck the left tire of the baler then rolled in the ditch shortly before 8:00pm. Torres was taken by ambulance to the Sauk Centre hospital for treatment of a head injury. The tractor driver, 71-year old David William Bromenshenkel of Sauk Centre, was not injured but did receive a citation. Torres received a citation for driving without a valid license. In the news release, the Sheriff’s Office reminded people “who are harvesting to have visible and operational safety equipment and lights on their equipment.”

–An infant girl, found unresponsive at a home day care in Baxter Thursday morning, has died. The Baxter Police Department reports police officers responded to the report at 10:50am at the home of Kimberly and Jerry Opay III in Baxter. Baxter police reported the day care providers noticed the infant was unresponsive, immediately started lifesaving efforts and called 911. Officers at the scene were assisted by Crow Wing County sheriff’s deputies and North Memorial Ambulance personnel in performing lifesaving efforts. The infant, believed to be 3 to 4 months old, was transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, where lifesaving efforts continued. The infant died at the hospital following extensive efforts by all personnel involved. No foul play is suspected. Investigating agencies are awaiting the results of an autopsy conducted by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.

–The Pierz City Council meets tonight 7:00pm at Pierz City Hall. Agenda items include a feasability report on 2016 Street Improvments, zoning ordinance amendment, senior center rental request, and update on the Babinski property and setting a public works committee meeting.

–Thousands of people attended the funeral for Aitkin County Deputy Steven Sandberg Friday at Aitkin High School. Around 2,000 law enfrocement officers from around the state, country and even Canada filled the facility to honor Sandberg for his 24 years of service and offer their support and condolences to the deputy’s family. Sandberg was killed a week ago Sunday after an altercation at St. Cloud Hospital where a suspect was table to get Sandberg’s gun and shot him. The suspect later died at the hospital. The governor ordered flags at half staff Friday in honor of Deputy Sandberg.

–About 40 firefighters responded to a garage fire near Nisswa Friday morning. Firefighters from Brainerd, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and the DNR arrived just after 2:30am and aided in helping put out the blaze that destroyed the garage, scorched an acre of land around and several trees. The house nearby was threatened by smoke and flames but did not catch fire. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire was undetermined.

–The State Patrol reported one person was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday in Otter Tail County. Just before 10:30am, a vehicle turned from a driveway onto Highway 210 where it was broadsided by a pickup truck driven by 71-year-old Nelson Douglas from California. Douglas was taken to an area hospital with reportedly non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was dead when authorities arrived. A passenger in that vehicle was not injured. No other information has been released.

–A reminder from Pierz Community Schools that the high school choir concert scheduled for tonight has been moved to November 2nd at 7pm at Pierz High School.

–Both Little Falls and Pierz will have Trick or Treating from area businesses on Friday, Pierz from 3-5:30 and Little Falls from 3:30-5.

NBA= Minnesota Timberwolves Head Coach Flip Saunders died Sunday at the age of 60. He stepped aside his coaching duties earlier this year after being diagnosed with cancer.
HS FB=In Section 5AAA football Pierz defeated Annandale 18-12 on Saturday in St. Cloud to remain undefeated. Pioneers got 2 safetys in the 4th quarter to seal the win. They will play Albany who defeated Montivideo to advance to Halloween at 5:00pm on FM94 KFML.
NFL= Vikings came back to beat Detroit 28-19 Sunday to go to 4-2.
MLB= The Kansas City Royals are returning to the World Series for a second year in a row after eliminating Toronto Friday 4-3 to win the ALCS series in six games. Kansas City will host the New York Mets in game 1 tomorrow night. Mets swept Chicago Cubs in 4 games.
ACES= Tre Opack scored twice Friday as the Aces defeated Alexandria 5-3. Then the Aces beat the Twin City Steel 5-4 in a shootout Saturday. Aces host Twin City Steel Friday night at the Exchange Arena in their 4th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
