--Benton County authorities are looking for a wanted Wisconsin man who ran from his minivan Wednesday after a traffic stop near U.S. Highway 10. Law enforcement officers learned that there is a warrant for the arrest of Orville Glen Axelson Jr., 51, of Beloit, Wisconsin. Axelson was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan that turned from 115th Street Northwest onto southbound U.S. Highway 10 just before 9pm when a Benton County deputy saw his vehicle and another one make the turn, and then saw Axelson's van get in the wrong lane, driving in front of a southbound motorcycle and causing it to brake heavily to avoid a collision. That's when the deputy tried to stop the vehicle. It eventually stopped at the top of an exit ramp. Axelson first told the deputy there was no insurance on the minivan, but then claimed his sister had insurance on it. His sister was in the other vehicle that had turned onto Highway 10 with him, and the deputy noticed that she had stopped nearby. Axelson said he was driving the way he was because he wanted to stay close to her vehicle on unfamiliar roads. The deputy told Axelson to wait in his vehicle while he spoke to his sister about the insurance. But after the deputy walked away, Axelson sped away in the Caravan. The deputy chased the Caravan, which turned onto Frost Road and drove into a ditch a short distance west of Benton County Road 33. As the deputy approached the Caravan, he discovered that the woman who had been a passenger in Axelson's van was now behind the wheel. That's when the deputy learned that Axelson had jumped out of the van while it was still moving and ran into a wooded area near Frost Road. And the deputy also learned from law enforcement databases that there was a warrant for Axelson's arrest. Two K-9 teams and several other law enforcement agencies helped search the area, but Axelson was not found. The Benton County Attorney’s Office will consider criminal charges against Axelson, based on traffic violations and flight from the deputy. Anyone with information about Axelson’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at 320-968-7201.
