--Four crashes in 16 months that caused five deaths and nine life-changing injuries along the Minnesota Highway 23 corridor prompted a collaboration aimed at education and enforcement. It focuses on the road between Richmond and Milaca, linking a project that began months ago from St. Cloud to Richmond and merged with a more recent project that covered Foley to Milaca. The collaboration between the Toward Zero Deaths Coalition and Highway 23 Crash Reduction Initiative is holding a kickoff event today from 3:00-7:00pm at CentraCare Health Plaza. The collaboration focuses on four E's to reduce serious injuries and deaths on roadways- enforcement, engineering, education and emergency trauma services. The event at CentraCare will include an impaired driving simulator, a rollover simulator, car seat education, emergency vehicles, a LifeLink helicopter and information about the crash reduction project. The organizers hope a comprehensive approach will change behavior on the corridor.
