NEWS
--A large power outage occurred around 11:05pm Tuesday night in Little Falls. Power was restored to a third of the customers who lost power within an hour and all customers had power restored with an hour and a half. Crews from Minnesota Power were dispatched to the area right away and were able to restore power to everyone. However, crews were unable to identify why the outage occurred and are still investigating the potential cause.

--Area firefighters were called to Madden's Town Hall and Conference Center on Gull Lake near Baxter Tuesday around 2:30pm. The Pillager fire department responded with Brainerd firefighters providing mutual aid, and found smoke coming from the building and it was evacuated. The fire was quickly contained to the northeast corner of the building which was unoccupied at the start of the fire. There were no injuries. The building is where fire suppression equipment is held. It is unclear what started the fire.

--The fire at Pleasureland RV Monday night near Brainerd reportedly did $150,000 in damage, which including a fifth wheel utility camper that was destroyed, a park model camper damaged next to it, and a portion of a secured area near a building. The building had no damage to it. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

--Soldiers at Camp Ripley took part in a batallion size live fire excerise last weekend which caused a lot of booming in the area. The Minnesota National Guard 1st Battalion 125th Field Artillery took part in the event moving through Camp Ripley to give fire support to the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team 34th Infantry Division for the military exercise using the six gun field artillery batteries to answer calls for indirect fire support. Camp Ripley continues with training exercises through the summer months and is gearing up for their Open House event in mid-September. Also during that event will be the swearing in of the new Post Commander for the base as Colenol Scott St. Sauver will be retiring from that position. A change of command ceremony that Sunday is at 1:30pm at Camp Ripley. The open house is scheduled from 10:00am-2:00pm on September 17th.

--A 43-year old St. Cloud man was killed Tuesday on Minnesota Highway 23 in Waite Park when the vehicle he was driving rolled off the road. Muhumednour Abdiwahab Mahamud was pronounced dead after the vehicle he was driving eastbound went off the road and into the median. It hit a culvert and rolled. The accident happened shortly before 11:00am between 28th Avenue South and Bel Clare Drive. The passenger, 30-year old Asho Eleeye Hiir of St. Cloud, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at St. Cloud Hospital.

--The Minnesota Military Museum is featuring Private First Class George Ingebretsen of Minneapolis in their Featured Veteran Exhibit through August 31st. George was born on June 7th, 1912 in Norway. He immigrated to the U.S. when he was seventeen. He volunteered for the Army in March 1942, training with the 385th Regiment in Texas. The public is invited to view the exhibit on Private Ingebretsen along with all the exhibits in the Minnesota Military Museum. The museum is open daily 10:00am-5:00pm. Current featured exhibits include “Minnesota Voices from Vietnam” and “In the Fight: Minnesota and the First World War”.

--It is Day 3 of the Crow Wing County Fair. Today is agriculture day which includes a presentation of the century farms in the county and motorcross at the grandstand tonight. More at fallsradio.com.

--Police say a section of a building on the campus of Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis collapsed after an explosion Wednesday morning. Authorities stated late last night two employees of the school were killed. Authorities also stated nine people were hospitalized including three with serious injuries, as of this morning, one was in critical condition. The school is not in session in August. Some students were on hand for extra curricular activities at the school, though the numbers of students is not believed to have been large. The damage occurred in one part of the building. Minneapolis Fire Department officials say the explosion was the result of a suspected ruptured gas line, which then caught on fire. The explosion occurred on the school's upper campus, which houses grades 9-12.

--Bail for a Bemidji man who was captured after escaping from custody was set Wednesday, during a short court appearance. 22-year old Keanu Joseph Major escaped early last Friday morning from Sanford Bemidji Medical Center after a corrections officer allowed him to use the restroom. After a multi-day manhunt, he was apprehended in St. Cloud. Major was charged Monday with escaping from custody, a felony. During his Wednesday court appearance, bail was set at $150,000 without conditions and $100,000 with conditions. Major is also being held without bail on three probation violation charges. Major is next scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

--Little Falls Community Schools is holding registration week August 15th-17th. All families of the District, new and returning are urged to come to the Falls Ballroom during the week to register students who will be attending school in the district. Representatives of all five buildings will be available to help make sure all necessary paperwork is completed before school begins. The times are as followed Tuesday 15th from 1-7pm, Wednesday 16th from 9-3pm and Thursday 16th from 1-7pm again at the Falls Ballroom in Little Falls. No appointments are needed. --Congratulations to Eric Ott and Aimee Hintzke. They found the Crow Wing County Fair medallion the first day of the fair for $1,000. It was under a wooden deck stairway of the bulding that contained items being sold by the Civil Air Patrol and the Photography Exhibit.

--The next Rock Roll and Stroll is scheduled for tonight in Pierz. Events get underway at 5pm, poker walk, classic cars and more.

PIERZ= Pierz vs. Wisconsin Legion Team today at 4pm from the Central Plains Regional Tournament in North Dakota live on FM94. Pierz will play at 1pm and 6pm Friday also on FM94 KFML.
