NEWS --Authorities say the woman who was fatally shot in a Brooklyn Center hotel over the weekend was a teenager from St. Cloud. The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office on Tuesday identified the victim as 18-year-old Allie Marie Campbell. The medical examiner says she died of a gunshot wound, and the manner of death is pending an investigation. Campbell was fatally shot Saturday night at the Quality Inn. Six suspects were booked at the Hennepin County Jail over the weekend in connection with the investigation. Five were released, although they could face charges in the future. The sixth person booked at the jail is being held on a probation violation from a separate case. No charges have been filed.
--Around 2:45pm Wednesday 60-year old Craig Clark of St. Cloud was traveling south on Highway 10 to turn east on Iris Road in Little Falls Township as a vehicle driven by 85-year old Robert Lawrence of Bagley was traveling south on Highway 10 just north of Iris Road. Lawrence's vehicle left the road into the median ditch and crashed into several signs. The signs then struck Clark's vehicle that was waiting to turn east onto Iris Road. One passenger in the Lawrence vehicle, 78-year old Gloria Lawrence of Bagley suffered non life threatening injuries. Neither driver was injured according to the report from the Minnesota state patrol.
--The St. Cloud Police Department is asking for the public help in locating a missing 44-year-old. Police responded to a welfare check on Friday at a residence on Rivercrest Drive for Ryan Meyer of St. Cloud. Investigators discovered Meyer was last seen at 2:00am last Wednesday at Cashwise in Waite Park. Police said Meyer has not shown up to work and is not answering his phone. It is believed he is driving a white 2006 Dodge Caravan. Meyer is described as a white man, 6 feet 1 inches tall and 160 pounds. Anyone with information about Meyer is asked to call the St. Cloud Police at (320) 251-1200.
--Minnesota families who have owned their farms for 100 years or more may apply for the 2017 Century Farms Program. More than 10,000 Minnesota farms have been honored since the program began in 1976. Family farms are recognized as Century Farms when three requirements are met. The farm must be: 1) at least 100 years old according to authentic land records; 2) in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years (continuous residence on the farm is not required); and 3) at least 50 acres. A commemorative certificate signed by State Fair Board of Managers President Sharon Wessel, Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation President Kevin Paap and Governor Mark Dayton will be awarded to qualifying families, along with an outdoor sign signifying Century Farm status. Applications are available online at mnstatefair.org or at statewide county extension and county Farm Bureau offices. The submission deadline is Monday, April 3rd. Recipients will be announced in May.
--Little Falls Community School is trying to send a fan bus to the Girls Hockey Section Finals in Bemidji on Friday night. Gametime is 7:00pm vs Roseau. The yellow fan bus would leave at 4:00pm Friday afternoon, the cost is $10 per person which does not include the game ticket. Tickets will need to be purchased in Bemidji. Adults $8 Students $5. Please signup in the Activities Office by 1:00pm this afternoon. You will need to pay your $10 when you signup. They will need at least 30 people to send the fan bus.
--Several ice houses were broken into recently on some Todd County lakes. The sheriff’s office says they received a number of reports on Monday. The fish houses were on Latimer Lake, Lake Osakis, Pine Island Lake, Thunder Lake, and Big Lake. Deputies, along with the help of the Long Prairie police department, identified several suspects and conducted searches recovering a large amount of the stolen items. 18-year old Jordan Salber of Browerville, 18-year-old Hayden Host of Browerville, and another boy from Long Prairie were arrested and are facing charges. Charges are also pending against three other juveniles involved. Victims of the reported burglaries have identified some of the recovered property. The Todd County Sheriff’s Office is asking other fish house owners to check their houses on area lakes for missing items, then call and report if your house was broken into.
--A Minnesota judge on Wednesday declined to dismiss charges against a police officer who shot and killed a black man during a July traffic stop, saying it's fair and reasonable for the case to go to trial. The Judge said St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez will enter a plea at a February 27th hearing. His attorneys indicated he will plead not guilty to manslaughter and other counts in the shooting death of Philando Castile.
--Debra Kuhn of Brainerd won $77,777 by playing the Lottery's Lucky 7s Tripler scratch game. She claimed the prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Roseville and purchased the winning ticket at SuperAmerica in Brainerd. The store will receive a $500 retailer selling bonus.
