NEWS
--Sartell police have released the name of the man whose body was pulled from the Mississippi River Tuesday night. The victim has been identified as 79-year-old Lawrence Schuman of Sartell. Authorities were called to 15th Street North just after 8:00pm after reports Schuman had not returned from work. Police were told Schuman does sometimes go for walks, but usually not at that time of day and it is usually only for 20 minutes. Authorities began searching the area asking various businesses and residents if they had seen Schuman. While going door to door, a resident living on Riverside Avenue North said they saw a man sitting on a bench along the river. The Stearns County Sheriffs Office was called in to assist, with the help of a bloodhound. Moments later the dog began picking up a scent along the riverbank in the 600 block of Riverside Avenue North. At about 10:00pm Schuman was found in the Mississippi River. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No foul play is suspected.

--Around 1:30pm Wednesday the Morrison County Sheriff ‘s Office received a report of a one vehicle rollover with injuries on Haven Road, south of Little Falls. 30 year old John Strom Jr. from Waite Park was traveling north on Haven Road. Strom was attempting to make a right hand turn into Warner’s Used Car Lot when he lost control of his vehicle and it rolled into the ditch. He was transported by ambulance to St. Gabriel’s Hospital with unknown injuries.

--The city of Pierz is doing a contest open to all who live in the Pierz School District. The city of Pierz is searching for a motto or slogan and you can submit an entry by dropping one off at Pierz City Hall. All entries must be submitted by Thursday, December 1st and include your motto, name and contact information. The person who submits the winning entry will receive $250 Pierz Bucks. --Morrison County Veterans Service Officer Kathy Marshik is reminding all Vietnam Veterans of a ceremony on Tuesday night at 6:00pm at the Swanville High School Auditorium. A pinning ceremony will take place until around 8:00pm. This is for all military members who were part of the Vietnam era, November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975 whether boots on ground in Vietnam or serving in any branch of service at that time. Reservations are needed so call Kathy at the Morrison County Veterans Service Office at 632-0290 by Friday.

--Two people were hurt in a sideswipe crash in Stearns County Tuesday afternoon. The state patrol says the incident happened at about 1:30pm on Highway 15 near St. Cloud. 67-year-old David Sweeney of Rice and 57-year-old Kathryn Bazoff of St. Cloud were both traveling northbound on Highway 15. Bazoff lost control of her vehicle and hit Sweeney causing his vehicle to roll. Both drivers were taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

--Around 90 Canadian Armed Forces Army Reserves from the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment and 18 Service Company, stationed in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, travelled south from Thunder Bay to Camp Ripley October 8-10 to conduct their annual weapons qualifications. The soldiers from both units met their training aims and completed their personal weapons training on the C7 service rifle, M203 grenade launcher, C9 light machine gun, C6 heavy machine gun, and 9mm service pistol. Both units also conducted gas hut training. Both units bring their own vehicles to Camp Ripley as this gives the soldiers the opportunity to keep up their driving skills.

--A Fall Family Picnic will be held tonight at Camp Ripley DeParq Woods Campground Pavillion beginning at 6:00pm. This is a free family picnic in the park. Families will enjoy an evening of playing lawn games and a free meal provided. Bring a lawn chair. All Military-connected Families in Morrison County are invited. This includes all Service Members and Veterans, currently serving or not. All ages of children are welcome. For information call Tami at 616-3119.

--The Minnesota Military Museum is featuring Colonel Jeffrey S. Patton currently serving Air Force Veteran in their Featured Veteran exhibit. Colonel Patton was born and raised in Edina and entered the Air Force in 1994 as a graduate of the US Air Force Academy. The public is invited to view the entire exhibit on Col. Patton along with all the exhibits in the Minnesota Military Museum.

--A Bemidji man has been convicted of helping burn and bury a woman's body. A Beltrami County jury on Tuesday found 32-year-old Brandon Rossbach guilty of aiding an offender in the death of Rose Downwind, a mother of five and the granddaughter of American Indian Movement co-founder Dennis Banks. Her burned body was found in a shallow grave in a forest northwest of Bemidji last December. An autopsy indicated she had been strangled. Her ex-boyfriend, Marchello Cimmarusti pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in April. Cimmarusti is to be sentenced in November and Rossbach in December. Christopher Davis, pleaded guilty earlier to the same charge as Rossbach and is serving a 10-year sentence.

--The Guardian Angel Youth Group which serves the Parishes of Holy Cross in North Prairie, St. Edwards in Elmdale, St. Mary's in Upsala, and St. Francis of Assisi in St. Francis, are hosting a Haunted House on Saturday starting at 8pm. This will take place in the Parish House at Holy Cross in North Prairie. Go to the church basement to check in. This event is open to the public. There is no charge for admission.
