NEWS
–Wanda Gau of Little Falls finished the Boston Marathon Monday with an overall time of three hours fifteen minutes and nine seconds (3:15:09). Gau finished 6th in her age group of women age 50-54. Of over 30,000 runners she placed 3,826th and was the 426th top female runner. Congratulations to Wanda Gau on an excellent performance.
–A pedestrian and her dog were killed when struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train on Saturday night in Wadena. The victim was identified by school officials as 15-year old Wadena Deer Creek 9th grader Stacy Hundeby. Around 6:20pm Hundeby and a dog were walking on the tracks when they were struck by the train. The Wadena Deer Creek High School will have additional counselors this week to help those struggling with the unexpected loss. Traffic on Highway 71 around the tracks was detoured for three hours.
–The Little Falls Fire Department responded to numerous incidents recently. A grass fire was reported shortly after noon Sunday at 233rd Street west of Jewel Road. 17-firefighters were on the scene for about a half hour containing the fire. At 1:35am Monday the Little Falls Fire Department responded to an unauthorized burn at 3287 Crow Wing Lake Court in Fort Ripley township. The fire was put out. Also the Little Falls Fire Department responded to a swamp fire at 19935 133rd Street in Little Falls Township. Shortly after 9:00am the DNR assisted for two hours containing the blaze. No injuries were reported in any of these incidents.
–The two people involved in a boating accident on Friday have been identified as 48-year-old Timothy Bahma and 51-year-old Lori Sweet both of Brainerd. They were thrown from their boat Friday around 6:00pm into Rice Lake. The boat then struck Sweet after she was thrown from it. Neither were wearing life jackets. Sweet was taken to a Twin City Hospital with serious injuries while Bahma was not injured. The sheriff’s office wants to thank the public for quick response time after the incident occurred as eyewitnesses called to report the accident immediately.
–Crow Wing County and Brainerd Police say that 20 homes were struck with paintballs this past weekend. The police department is in charge of the investigation and stated the vandalism was from late Friday into early Saturday morning. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Brainerd police department at (218) 829-2805.
–Crow Wing County responded to three separate fire calls last week. On Monday at 8:20am a house fire was called in on County Road 36 in Emily. The house had burned to the ground before authorities arrived and the state fire marshal was called in. No other details were released. Then on Tuesday, a grass fire around 11:45am on County Road 1 in Emily, and a telephone pole fire around 12:20am Tuesday on County Road 26 in Garrison. No injures in either incident.
–A Belgrade man was injured Wednesday evening during a crash in Buffalo. 59-year old James A. Anderson was traveling east on Minnesota Highway 55 near Main Street when two vehicles traveling the other direction collided and one hit his vehicle. 19-year old Reed J. Kuhlman of Clearwater was driving one of the vehicles that was westbound on Highway 55. He tried to pass a second vehicle just before an area of the road that was being closed from two lanes to one. He first hit the vehicle he was trying to pass, then hit the vehicle Anderson was driving. Anderson was treated for injuries sustained.
–St. Cloud Fire Department was called to a fire at an East Side apartment Sunday afternoon. Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 1:30pm to Oakshire Apartments at 401 14th Avenue SE for a kitchen fire. The fire was related to cooking. There was one adult female and one child home at the time who were both able to escape without injuries. The kitchen sustained significant fire damage, while the rest of the unit suffered smoke and heat damage. There was an estimated damage to the apartment of $55,000.
–A Paynesville man was injured Wednesday in a collision involving four vehicles. A truck driven by 20-year old Chancelor Holms was eastbound on Minnesota Highway 23 in Richmond when he went into the westbound lane before entering the parking lot of a gas station. Holms’ vehicle then crashed into a parked car. Both vehicles continued moving, colliding with another truck that was pulling a trailer. Holms was the only person injured and not seriously.
–April Myers was selected as Sauk Rapids Citizen of the Year for 2016. The Sauk Rapids Citizen of the Year was started in 1986 by the Sauk Rapids Chamber to recognize individuals who have affected the community. Myers has lived in Sauk Rapids since 1992 and is currently the director of housing for Good Shepherd Community. She is also involved with the Great River Rotary, Living Waters Lutheran Church and volunteers with the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District. Myers will be recognized at the Citizen of the Year reception at 4:30pm next Monday at the Sauk Rapids Government Center. She will also be recognized at the City Council meeting following the reception at 6:00pm. Myers was selected by a committee of city staff, local business representatives and past Citizen of the Year recipients.

–Actress Doris Roberts died Sunday at age 90. She is best remembered as the mother of Ray Romano’s character, Marie Barone on the TV Series Everybody Loves Raymond.

TWINS= Twins and Brewers play a six inning game last night due to rain, but it counts and Twins win 7-4 over Brewers thanks to Sano and Park homering in the game. The Twins will try and host Milwaukee today, weather permitting, at 11:30am on Q92 WYRQ.
NHL= Jason Pominville had 2 goals and an assist as the Minnesota Wild beat Dallas 5-3 in St. Paul. Stars still lead Wild 2-1 in the series. Game 4 is Wednesday night 8:30pm in St. Paul.
