NEWS
–The Morrison County Sheriff’s office reported that on Sunday around 10:10am a two vehicle accident occurred on 183rd Street at 255th Avenue in Buh Township, northwest of Pierz. 22-year old Brian Dukowitz of Pierz was driving a pickup on 255th Avenue when he failed to stop for a stop sign and struck the passenger side door of a vehicle driven by 83-year old Delmar Zeller of Long Prairie. Both vehicles ended up in the southeast ditch on their roofs. Both people were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

–The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office have released more information from a fatal dirt bike versus tractor accident on 173rd Street west of Hillman Saturday afternoon. There was a helmet located near Damian Hebler’s body. The sheriff’s office believes that Damian was wearing his helmet, but are still investigating whether or not it came off as a result of the accident. An autopsy is being conducted from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office. Hebler struck the back of a tractor driven by Kylee Hoheisel and died at the scene. Hoheisel was not hurt.

–The Pierz School District issued a statement canceling the mock car crash slated for this Wednesday at the high school. It read: “In light of the recent loss of Damian Hebler, the Pierz High School staff has made the final decision to cancel the Mock Car Crash scheduled for this Wednesday, April 27th.

–The Morrison County Commissioners meet today at 9am at the Morrison County Government Center in Little Falls.

–One person was injured in a two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon on Minnesota Highway 23. According to a Minnesota State Patrol, 19-year old Liban Maalim of West Fargo, North Dakota, and 52-year-old Sharon Donnay of Watkins, were southbound on Highway 23 south of St. Cloud. Maalim attempted a U-turn causing the collision with Donnay. Maalim was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with injuries the Minnesota State Patrol did not consider life-threatening. Donnay suffered no apparent injuries.

–Two were injured in a broadside collision on Sunday afternoon in Sherburne County. 41-year old Kristine Sylvester of Clearwater was northbound on Minnesota Highway 25 approaching the intersection at 37th Street Southeast as 47-year-old, Monica Wesenberg of Becker was westbound on 37th Street Southeast when she ran the stop sign and broadsided Sylvester’s vehicle. Wesenberg admitted she struck a turkey earlier, which damaged her windshield. She had been taking a picture of the damage while driving. Wesenberg was taken to the hospital by ambulance for injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. Sylvester also suffered non life threatening injuries.

–A St. Cloud man faces charges after he was arrested in connection with the robbery of a gas station/store over the weekend. Police received a call right before 10:00pm Saturday regarding a robbery at the Super America at 600 U.S. Highway 10 South. An employee told police two people entered the store displaying a weapon and stole merchandise. The police later came in contact with 18-year old Jacob Swanstrom of St. Cloud and took him into custody. Swanstrom was taken to the Benton County Jail and is facing charges of aggravated robbery and second degree assault. The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the St. Cloud Police Department at (320) 251-1200.

–FM94 Ladies Night Out Little Falls Style Thursday.

–The Little Falls Community High School Activities/ Fine Arts Banquet was held Monday night. Awards and winners included: MSHSL ExCel Awards Kristi Masog and Tyler Moore; Flyer Swimming Memorial Award-Abigail Swanson; MSHSL AAA Awards-Melanie Dorn and Thomas Miller; 15 Three Sport Athlete Award Winners; Vern and Bunny Zehren Award-Elizabeth Becker and Mitchel Magee; US Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award-Melanie Dorn and Thomas Miller; John Philip Sousa Award-Hannah Veillette; Louis Armstrong Award-Jodie Andersen; Semper Fidelis Musical Excellence Award-Daniel Palmer; National School Choral Award-Lindsey Barnes and Nathan Voshall; Fred Waring Director’s Award-Thomas Miller; Fine Arts Students of the Year- Vanessa Nelson and Michael Vogl; US Marine Corp Distinguished Athlete Award-Sarah Gold and Dan Marod; Female Athlete of the Year-Jordan Schuett; Male Athlete of the Year-(co-winners) Landon Bjorge and Riley Loukinen. 96-seniors were honored for lettering in sports and/or fine arts at last night’s event.

–Mavis Buker announced she is retiring June 30th (tentatively) as the Executive Director of the Minnesota Fishing Museum in Little Falls or earlier when the position is filled. She has been working at the museum since 2009.

–Next Wednesday (May 4th) is the 6th Annual Day of Caring in Little Falls. A reminder to volunteers that the registering table is between 7:10-7:45am, breakfast 7:15-8am, kick off ceremony at 8:05am then the teams disperse until noon at the assigned sites in Little Falls and Randall. There will also be a community sponsored lunch from 12:00-1:00pm at the high school commons after completing the morning assignments. If you have questions or still wish to volunteer on the Day of Caring May 4th contact Becky Abbott at 616-2215.

–The Brainerd Fire Department responded to a fire in a detached garage early Sunday. Around 1:45am firefighters were called to the 600 block of Grove Street in Brainerd. The garage was engulfed in flames when authorities arrived. The damage to the garage was extensive yet no damage estimate was available. The cause of fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

–famed wildlife artist Terry Redlin died on Sunday at age 78.
