NEWS
–The Foley police department responded to Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church just before 9:00am Sunday where an adult male was making threats and using vulgar language towards worshippers. The male was carrying a briefcase that did not contain weapons of any sort. The male was escorted where police found that the man was a Veteran and had been off his medication. Officers stated the man was not arrested but taken to his residence where his family was contacted to get the man some more help.

–The Morrison County Commissioners meet this morning at 9:00am at the Morrison County Government Center.

–Two people were treated for injuries sustained in a 2-vehicle accident Friday in Sartell. 49-year-old Sharon Prososki of Sauk Rapids was south on Riverside Avenue when she collided with 21-year-old Victor Martinez of Rice. Both drivers refused hospitalization but were treated for injuries at the scene. Sartell police stated that Martinez was cited for having a revoked license, use of an unregistered vehicle and police stated that Martinez went through the stop sign.

–An improperly discarded cigarette could be the cause of a fire that left about $23,000 in damage Sunday morning in north St. Cloud. St. Cloud firefighters were called to 1217-36th Avenue North at about 9:40am Sunday. They helped a woman in a wheelchair out of the home. No injuries were reported. A fire under a deck extended into the basement of the home.

–The State Patrol and Cass County responded to a vehicle accident Sunday around 5:20pm on Highway 6 near Outing. 55-year-old Steven Switala of Big Lake was injured and taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Switala was a passenger in one of the vehicles. Neither of the drivers were injured.

–A 32-year-old rural Aitkin County man made his first court apperance on theft charges after being arrested last month. Paul Wagner was arrestted in January after a residence reported a burglary at their place. After an ongoing investigation it resulted in Wagner being charged with five counts of felony buglary, along with other charges for controlled substance and theft. Bail was set Friday at $20,000 without conditions. As of Sunday he remained in the Aitkin County Jail.

–A 54-year-old Hill City man and a 49-year-old Swatara man are in the Aitkin County jail after being arrested Thursday near Aitkin. Donny Nutter and Steven Stansberry were arrested in their vehicle after a traffic stop turned up a presence of drugs from a K9 officer. Search warrants were later executed at their resdiences where a number of drugs and drug related items were found including over 13 ounces of methamphetamine. Both were charged with controlled substance crimes in Aitkin County.

–A 61-year-old Ironton man was acquitted of three felony stalking charges by a Crow Wing County jury last week. The jury deliberated for four hours before finding Robert Abear not guilty on all charges. Though he was found not guilty on the previous charges Abear remains on probation from convcitions of criminal sexual conduct from 2011 and 2013 and is on supervised probation through 2028.

–Thousands attended the $150,000 ice fishing extravangana put on the Brainerd Jaycees. Dan Volbert of Chaska was awarded the top prize of a new GMC truck for his 5.33 pound walleye. Volbert said he got the walleye in about 5.8 feet of water on Hole in the Day Bay.

–27-year old Kevin Blake from Eagan was injured in a snowmobile crash that took place near Clamshell Lake in Crow Wing County. Around 2:40am Saturday Blake had been operating the snowmobile when it struck a large boulder as he approached the shoreline. Blake was thrown from the machine and suffered injuries to his head. Blake was transported from the scene by ambulance. The incident remains under investigation.

–Three St. Cloud businesses face possible $750 fines for failing liquor compliance checks last June. St. Cloud City Council will consider issuing fines for liquor license violations at Boulder Ridge Golf Club Inc., Liquor Pig and Waldo’s Pizza. St. Cloud Police Department conducted alcohol compliance checks at licensed on-sale and off-sale establishments last June. The three listed businesses failed the compliance check by selling alcohol to a police department operative who was younger than 21. All three establishments have entered into a stipulation with the city acknowledging the underage sale violation and agreement to payment of the penalty. The violation is the first within the last two years for each of the three businesses.

–A year after Minnesota and much of the nation was hit hard by influenza, the virus is having less of an impact on residents throughout the state. However, infectious disease experts warn that the 2015-2016 flu season isn’t over, so an outbreak could still happen. The Minnesota Department of Health’s influenza database lists 92 flu-related hospitalizations statewide through the end of January. More than 4,300 people were hospitalized with complications from influenza last year in Minnesota.

–Firearms safety training classes will begin February 22nd at the Pioneer Elementry School in Pierz and there will also be class in Buckman that same night. For info in Pierz call Shelly at 360-1758 and for the one in Buckman call Ron at 468-6016.

COL BB= Gopher Basketball star Rachel Banham on Sunday tied an NCAA women’s record by scoring 60 points in a double overtime win over Northwestern. Banham tied a record not done since 1987.
TWINS= pitchers and catchers report for spring training in Major League Baseball next week, and you can find out what the Minnesota Twins have been doing in the offseason with the show Deep Cuts with the Minnesota Twins Wednesday at 7:00pm on Q92 WYRQ.
