NEWS
–Today is considered Super Tuesday in the political world as nearly a dozen states will hold primary or caucuses tonight to decide on a candidate for President of the United States. In previous election years, Minnesota held its caucuses in February. This year, party leaders chose to stage caucuses March 1st — Super Tuesday, a pivotal day in the presidential campaign when almost half of the delegates needed to win the party nominations are up for grabs. This year, the outcome of the nomination race is far from settled in either party.
That has meant heightened interest in the caucuses, in which voters gather in local schools, churches and veterans clubs to discuss issues and candidates. The state has seen visits from several presidential candidates in recent weeks, including Hillary Clinton, Marco Rubio and Bernie Sanders. Caucuses are being held around Morrison County tonight. DFL Caucus at Little Falls Middle School. Republican Caucuses are at the Little Falls High School for townships around Little Falls and Royalton. There are also sites at Scandia Valley Town Hall, Pierz Senior Site and Upsala High School. You can check fallsradio.com for info on the caucus site in your area.

–A Sauk Rapids man is jailed in lieu of $300,000 bail after being charged with raping and beating a woman who was in a relationship with him but who told him she was leaving him. 34-year old Dustin David Bartkowicz is charged in Stearns County District Court with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, third-degree assault, domestic assault and terroristic threats. He’s also accused of violating a no-contact order that had been issued February 19th by a judge that prohibited him from having any contact with the woman. Bartkowicz is accused of assaulting the woman five days after the no-contact order was issued. Officers saw multiple bruises on the victim, some of which were old. She was seen by doctors at St. Cloud Hospital and was diagnosed with a fractured rib.

–Jerome Valentine has been named the March Employee of the Month by the Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. Valentine has worked for over 22 years in the frozen foods section and is currently  the manager of that section at Coborn’s Superstore in Little Falls.

–St. Cloud police said they arrested two students Saturday evening when protesters briefly blocked the entrance to Herb Brooks National Hockey Center shortly before St. Cloud State University’s hockey game. The names of the two who were arrested weren’t immediately available. The protesters were calling for immediate relief of student debt and the protest was led by the People’s Collective at SCSU, along with support from other groups including Students for a Democratic Society at the University of Minnesota.

–Two drivers were injured late Saturday when one crossed the center line on Minnesota Highway 23 near Roscoe.  According to the State Patrol, 25-year-old Jeremy R. Christen of St. Joseph crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head on with 53-year-old Jessie A. Jacobson of Willmar. Both drivers were taken to St. Cloud Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. A State Patrol report says alcohol was detected in Christen’s system.

–All burning permits in St. Cloud, including recreational, will be suspended this week due to the high winds from recent days and temperatures again forecasted in the 40s and 50s by the weekend. The ban was issued Monday and they will discuss on Friday if the ban should remain in place or if it can be lifted by the weekend. If you have questions on the ban you should call St. Cloud Fire Department.

–The Zac Brown Band announced Monday they will be playing Target Field for the upcoming tour on May 28th in Minneapolis.

–A Swanville man was charged February 17th with one felony count each of fourth-degree assault of a peace officer and receiving stolen property, and one misdemeanor charge of fleeing a peace officer. If convicted, 33-year old Robert James Dunham Devereaux faces up to five years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines for each felony and up to 90 days in jail and/or $1,000 in fines for the misdemeanor.

–A Motley man was convicted of one felony count of domestic assault in Morrison County District Court. 27-year old Sean Lee Shake was given as stay of imposition and sentenced to five years probation and 37 days in jail, with credit for 37 days already served. He was also fined $185. Shake had one felony count of false imprisonment dismissed as part of a plea bargain.

–A Royalton man was convicted February 18th of one felony count of third-degree possession of methamphetamine in a school zone. On October 15th police checked a residence for 27-year old Cory Michael Wolf who had an active warrant for his arrest. An officer was invited into the residence and was given permission to look around for Wolf. The bedroom door of the residence was locked and the officer knocked and stated that he knew Wolf was there. Wolf eventually opened the door and was placed under arrest. While Wolf was being taken into custody, the officer noticed a glass meth pipe in plain sight on the desk in the bedroom, as well as a plastic bag containing what appeared to be meth. Wolf admitted the pipe belonged to him and that he had smoked meth that day. Also in the room were found other glass pipes and paraphernalia and more bags containing what appeared to be meth. Wolf’s residence in Royalton is directly across the street from a school. Wolf was sentenced to 27 months in prison and fined $135. Wolf had one felony charge of third-degree meth possession dismissed as part of a plea bargain.

–Fire damaged a building that houses two Kimball businesses early Monday morning. The fire started in the back of the building in the part that houses AK Graphics. The other business in the building, at 61 Main St. S, is Rehab Boutique. The fire call came in about 5:00am. A civilian driving by the building saw smoke and reported the fire. It took firefighters a few hours to extinguish the fire. The cause is under investigation. The extent of the damage is unknown, there was believed to be extensive smoke damage in the building.
