–Some lawmakers want to halt new restrictions on walleye fishing on Lake Mille Lacs this year. Senator Dave Brown of Becker introduced a bill last week that would allow anglers to use live bait and keep up to 2 walleyes per day. This comes after the DNR announced restrictions this year due to the poor walleye population stating all walleye would be catch and release only, none could be kept, and that only artifical bait could be used in catching the walleye. Senator Brown and other lawmakers that districts fall around Lake Mille Lacs feel that the restrictions are too tight and that this will have damage to the tourist season and shops around Lake Mille Lacs if walleye can not be kept. The bill isn’t expected to get far as Governor Dayton will have the final say in the matter and announced that the restrictions from his point of view are fair and need to be in place this year. The fishing opener on Lake Mille Lacs for walleye and Minnesota is May 14th.
